The upcoming episode of ABC's acclaimed show 20/20 is all set to cover the murder of veteran firefighter Robert Doerr and the involvement of Becky Fox-Doerr in the same. The murder case dates back to 2019 and remains a chilling instance of an affair gone wrong. Part of the case's resolution is still pending.
ABC's 20/20 will cover this case in its upcoming episode, titled Fire and Vice, which aims to give a detailed account of the events with a special emphasis on interviews with the people who were there as the case unfolded. This episode will air at 9 pm EST on November 8, 2024. The synopsis for the episode reads:
"A heart-pounding body-camera video captures moments after a firefighter is gunned down; a family drama unfolds in real time as police hunt for the killer."
Becky Fox-Doerr was allegedly having an affair with Larry Richmond Sr., who was a convicted murderer in an earlier case. Becky allegedly planned her husband's murder with the help of Larry, who shot him multiple times outside his home.
Becky was found guilty of aiding, inducing, or causing murder and conspiracy to commit murder, for which she was sentenced to a total of 90 years in prison. She is currently incarcerated at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana.
Why did Becky Fox-Doerr murder her husband Robert Doerr?
52-year-old Becky Fox-Doerr seemingly lived a perfect life with Robert Doerr, a veteran firefighter. They even had four kids, Robert’s daughter, Lindsey Doerr, and Becky's three sons, Nathaniel Guthrie, Dustin Barrett, and Taylor Barrett. Robert was a father figure to Becky's children and the household seemed to be blissful.
But it all changed on the night of February 26, 2019, when Becky called 911 to report that her husband had been shot multiple times outside their home. She reportedly saw the headlights of his car shortly before hearing the gunshots.
As the police reached the scene, Becky seemed inconsolable. He was pronounced dead immediately. No one had seen who did it.
The police began investigating immediately and learned a shocking secret. The investigators discovered a letter written by Robert that seemed to indicate that Becky was involved in an extramarital affair. The police soon seized Becky's phone for investigation and discovered that she had made a call to Larry Richmond Sr., who was engaged to Becky's sister, Mandy Fillmore. Moreover, Becky had also deleted this call from her log, which seemed to deepen the suspicion.
Soon, the police also found that Larry Richmond Jr. had acquired a stolen Taurus Judge gun from a pawn shop, which was also the gun Robert Doerr was murdered with. Larry Richmond Sr also provided some crucial evidence against his son, including a letter that Larry wrote about being implicated in the murder if the gun was ever found.
This made it clear that Becky was having an extramarital affair, because of which she plotted to kill her husband. All this combined gave authorities enough reason to arrest and charge Becky Fox-Doerr.
Where is Becky Fox-Doerr now?
Becky went to trial earlier this year. Even her son Nathaniel Guthrie, took the stand against his mother. The prosecution alleged that Becky planned the elaborate murder with Larry, and the two murdered the dedicated firefighter and family man.
Becky Fox-Doerr was ultimately sentenced to 60 years for aiding in the murder and 30 years for conspiracy, both to be served consecutively. She currently remains incarcerated at the Rockville Correctional Facility, where she will possibly remain till the end of her life.
The upcoming episode of 20/20 on ABC will cover this case in more detail.
