The upcoming episode of 48 Hours on CBS is all set to cover the murder of Leslie Tarr and the involvement of Robert Tarr, better known as Bobby Tarr, in the same. Tarr reportedly broke into the house of Leslie's date, Chris Smith, and shot them both. Leslie died instantly, but Smith survived, despite taking a shot to the head. This remains one of the most disturbing cases in the history of Farmersville, Illinois.

48 Hours season 38, episode 7 covers this case in detail. It is slated to air on November 2, 2024, at 10.00 PM EST. The synopsis for this episode, titled Fatal First Date, reads:

"A couple's first date ends with an ambush. Both are shot. Can the only survivor identify the shooter? "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty reports."

Tarr became a primary suspect in the case right after the authorities found Leslie Smith dead and Chris Smith was found nearly dead. When there were inconsistencies in his story, he was charged with the murder.

Bobby Tarr was ultimately found guilty of the murder and sentenced to 85 years in prison. He remains incarcerated at the Illinois Department of Corrections.

What did Bobby Tarr do?

Leslie Reeves, a 44-year-old mother of two, reportedly had an on-and-off relationship with Bobby Tarr, but by the time this incident took place, everything between them was over.

After meeting Chris Smith online, Leslie Reeves decided to set up a first date with him at the Uptown Saloon in Farmersville, Illinois, on November 24, 2021. After spending a nice evening together, the pair decided to go to Smith's house to spend some more time.

However, that night, Bobby Tarr allegedly followed Smith and Reeves home. At around 1 AM at night, when the couple were allegedly making a pizza for themselves, Tarr forcefully ripped open the storm door and tried to break in. Leslie moved the refrigerator in front of the door to prevent Tarr from entering while Chris Smith allegedly attempted to shut the door. Tarr reportedly shot Smith through the door, before murdering Leslie Reeves in cold blood. Leslie was later found dead in the living room.

The next morning, a friend of Leslie's requested a welfare check at Smith's house, leading the police to this harrowing discovery.

Tarr was the suspect from the very start as he had a twisted relationship with Leslie. When he was questioned, he also allegedly had many inconsistencies in his story, which further pointed at him. Moreover, when a friend of Bobby Tarr's informed him that Leslie was in Greenville, Illinois, his response seemed driven by extreme jealousy, which further indicated that he had a solid motive for killing Leslie and her new date.

Tarr was arrested just a day after the murder. Soon, he was also found guilty of Leslie Reeves' murder and Chris Smith's attempted murder. He was ultimately sentenced to 85 years in prison, which means that he will spend the rest of his days in a jail cell.

He reportedly remains incarcerated at the Illinois Department of Corrections for first-degree.
