What happened to Jana Koklich?

On the morning of August 20, 2001, Jana went missing along with her car, a Nissan Pathfinder. When she didn't reach her office, her husband returned and checked for her in the house. She was not found in the house.

As portrayed in the fifth episode of Homicide: Los Angeles, Jana had gone to a concert with a friend on August 17, 2001. She returned home at midnight on August 18. According to Bruce, she spent a low-key weekend with Bruce, and the couple did not entertain phone calls as well over the weekend, as they were busy reading books, listening to music, and spending time together.

On August 20, 2001, when Jana went missing, a missing case was filed by her husband. The detectives initially thought Jana's disappearance to be linked with her father's prosecution, Chris Boatan, and even the mysterious voice on the recorder. However, there was no link found.

On August 27, 2001, Jana's car was found in Signal Hill. A large bloodstain and a feather were found at the back of her vehicle. Soon, a luminol examination was done of her house, and more blood was found in her bedroom. When matched with Jana's DNA, it all matched.

The detectives of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department found Bruce Koklich suspicious as he was the only one with a motive to kill Jana. Jana had a one-million-dollar life insurance policy, and the couple had a big house, mansions, and a massive business empire.

Jana perhaps wanted to divorce Bruce, and Bruce knew that if he had to go through a divorce, he would lose a lot of wealth, which would cause his business and his status in society to go down. However, when the police found a witness who noticed Bruce sitting inside Jana's car the night before her disappearance, they connected the entire timeline and sequence of the case.

Bruce was the only one who had a motive to kill Jana. He was the first one to report the case. He also told the police how Jana could have been kidnapped or abducted. The detectives concluded that Bruce killed Jana and then wrapped her body with a towel and a bedsheet, and then took her body and loaded her body at the back of her car.

Later, Bruce drove the car, dumped the body somewhere, and then left her car at Signal Hill, California. After that, Bruce could have walked home, as the detectives speculated.

Bruce Koklich tried to create a positive image of his relationship with Jana, to the court, and the media. However, the detectives also discovered the Don Juan nature of Bruce. Bruce was finally arrested in 2003, even after he bailed out earlier 2003. The jury finally charged him with murder.

Jana's body has not been recovered to date. Bruce Koklich, who is now serving his life sentence in prison, has not accepted that he killed Jana, nor has he revealed where her body is.
