The episode of Feuds Turned Fatal, which aired on November 27, 2024, at 10:00 PM ET/PT, led the audience through the details of the case and focused on the investigation, the arrest, and the conviction of Norris.
The murder of Jason Johnson and Chad Norris's role
Jason Johnson was last known to be seen on September 14, 2012, at Scottsdale Auto Collision Center, a business where he and Chad Norris shared ownership. Johnson's abrupt disappearance caused alarm, especially after not showing up for work and failing to appear for appointments. His family reported his disappearance, and the police in Tempe immediately initiated an investigation.
While conducting their investigations, the police found out that Johnson and Norris had a heated argument on the day Johnson disappeared, making them suspect Norris. Significant physical evidence linked Norris to the crime, which the police discovered in the process of their investigations.
While surveillance, they found him and his wife moving large trash bags and later discovered blood traces, shell casings, and Johnson's driver's license in their trailer. All this information was key in building a case against Norris.
A gun was later discovered at Norris's house, which matched the bullet casing found in the trailer. Without a body, circumstantial evidence was enough to charge Norris with murder.
Chad Norris's trial and conviction
Chad Norris was brought before the court in 2015 for the murder of Jason Johnson. While Norris was successfully running the shop with Johnson, their argument on the day of his disappearance has been reported to have been over the shop's long-delayed renovations. However, the exact topic of their argument wasn't revealed.
Meanwhile, the trial witnessed family members of Johnson testifying on how Johnson's death affected them deeply. His sister Ericka Weistrich testified saying that after learning about Norris' involvement, she said she felt “most anger I’ve ever had towards anybody.”
In May 2015, Norris was convicted of murder in the second degree and was sentenced to 18 years in prison a few months later. The judge took into consideration Norris's lack of criminal history and his role as a father when determining the sentence. Johnson's family asked for the maximum sentence of 25 years, which the court did not hand down.
Tamara Norris, Chad's wife, was also charged in the case for covering up the crime. She pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution and was sentenced separately.
Where is Chad Norris now?
Chad Norris is doing his 18 years at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Yuma in San Luis, Arizona. He was found guilty of murder in the second degree due to the circumstantial evidence against him.
Norris will serve out his entire sentence in jail. He will be put on supervision when he leaves the jail. His earliest date for release is set at 2030, though he will have to serve a full term.
Although Jason Johnson was convicted, the case of his murder still seems to have a lot of unanswered questions, especially in terms of where his body is.
