Citadel: Diana, the Italian spin-off series of the Priyanka Chopra-starrer Citadel, released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday, October 10, 2024. Alessandro Fabbri developed the series, while Gina Gardini served as its showrunner and Arnaldo Catinari as its director. Fabri is also the writer of the Italian series, along with Gianluca Bernardini, Ilaria Bernardini, Giordana Mari, and Laura Colella.

The Italian thriller-drama revolves around Citadel agent Diana Cavalieri, who infiltrates the criminal syndicate Manticore to avenge her parents' deaths. The entire season is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

The synopsis of the show reads:

"The Italian series in the Citadel world. Milan, 2030: Diana Cavalieri is a double agent for the secret syndicate Citadel, who infiltrated Manticore, the rival agency that destroyed Citadel eight years ago. Citadel: Diana began filming in October 2022 and finished production in May 2023. The spy thriller is set in Milan but was filmed at numerous locations across Italy and Switzerland.

1) Sicily, Southern Italy

Citadel: Diana was shot at the Baglio di Scopello resort in Sicily, along with the historic city of Palermo and the seaside town of Mondello. The show was also filmed in the Crack of Burri (Cretto di Burri), a landmark sculpture in Gibellina, North West Sicily.

2) Lombardy, Northern Italy

Multiple sequences of the series were shot at Lake Como and in Milan, the economic capital and Italy's financial center.

3) Rome, Lazio

The city of Rome, located in Italy's Lazio region, is a treasure trove of historic monuments, some of which were captured for the series.

4) Ticino, Switzerland

Ticino is an Italian-speaking region in Switzerland and was the show's only shooting location outside Italy. Citadel: Diana was filmed in the city of Lugano and the municipality of Mendrisio in Switzerland.

The snow-capped Saint-Gotthard Massif mountain range in the Swiss Alps is also featured in the Prime Video series. It is situated at the border of four cantons: Ticino, Uri, Valais, and Graubünden.

Plot summary

Citadel: Diana is set in Milan in the year 2030, eight years after the downfall of the global spy agency Citadel. The terrorist organization Manticore was responsible for wiping out Citadel and continues to influence the world order from behind the shadows.

The Citadel undercover agent 308, Diana Cavalieri (Matilda De Angelis), infiltrated Manticore as a mole under the guidance of Gabriele (Filippo Nigro). After Citadel ceased to exist, she was left behind enemy lines and continued her mission by working under Manticore's leader, Ettore Zani (Maurizio Lombardi).

Diana falls in love with Ettore's son, Eduardo Zani (Lorenzo Cervasio), who is unaware that she is a double agent. Both Edo and Diana struggle to decide where their loyalties lie in a world of deception and double-dealing.

Edo is the future heir of Manticore Italy but plans to turn it into a peacekeeping organization. When he gets his hands on a dangerous bioweapon, Jupiter, he must decide how far he will go in his quest for power and world peace. However, the question lingers on whether the ends justify the means.

The show stars Matilda De Angelis as the titular character Diana Cavalieri, with Maurizio Lombardi as Ettore Zani, and Lorenzo Cervasio as Edo Zani. Meanwhile, it has Julia Piaton as Cécile Martin, Giordana Faggiano as Sara, Thekla Reuten as Julia Zani, and Bernhard Schütz as Wolfgang Klein
