The Agency introduces Coyote, a deep-cover CIA operative whose disappearance sets the stage for one of the series' most intense storylines. Played by Alex Reznik, Coyote's fate turns for the worse when, on an assignment in Belarus, he falls into the hands of a mercenary organization called Valhalla and its leader, General Volchok.

With Coyote now captured and headed for Russian intelligence, this sets off a race against time within the CIA to find and rescue him. It was revealed his psychiatrist had manipulated his drugs, and in a DUI episode, he had left himself open to be kidnapped by a corrupt KGB agent known as Bogdan Antuyk, who then brought him to Valhalla.

As of The Agency Episode 8, Truth Will Set You Free, Coyote is still in the clutches of General Volchok, who intends to turn him over to Russian intelligence. The CIA has few options left to extract him. The agency's officers, Martian and Henry among them, have to fight against internal and external forces to avert a serious breach of intelligence.

The next new episode, Rubicon, will premiere on Paramount+ on January 17, 2025. Throughout Season 1, Coyote's missing has been a catalyst for various plot developments, including the CIA's internal challenges and the personal dynamics among agents. The Agency features an ensemble cast including Michael Fassbender, Jeffery Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, and Richard Gere.

Coyote is still in the clutches of General Volchok in The Agency explained

Coyote is still the central conflict of the series, and his kidnapping by Russian mercenaries propels the plot. At the very start of the series, Michael Fassbender's character, Paul Lewis alias name for Martian, is pulled out of a long-term undercover assignment to find Coyote, a CIA operative lost in Belarus.

Episodes 1 and 2 lay down the groundwork for this mission as the agency tries to find its missing operative. By Episode 6, it is revealed that Valhalla, a Russian mercenary organization under the leadership of General Volchok, is holding Coyote. His cover was compromised while trying to recruit someone in Belarus, who was somehow connected to Valhalla.

As a result, his psychiatrist was coerced by the mercenaries into messing with his meds, which landed him in jail for DUI. A KGB agent, Bogdan Antuyk, pushed Coyote through subterranean tunnels and brought him to Valhalla for €20,000. Volchok will take Coyote to Moscow where he is to be passed over to the Russian agencies for further operation. This might lead to exposure of classified US operations.

Episodes 7 and 8 describe how the CIA works to get the intelligence they need and to negotiate Coyote's release. Martian finds leads by using dead drops and other forms of old-school spycraft. Alexei Orekhov, under coercion, gives over intelligence to Volchok while putting his life in danger.

General Volchok becomes even more suspicious of the American Intel but is still contemplating negotiating with the CIA for greater gain.

In Episode 8, Coyote is seen physically again and is assured that Volchok is ready to deliver him to Moscow. If the operation goes well, the implications could prove disastrous, including public confessions from U.S. intelligence sources and extreme geopolitical ramifications.
