Snapped season 34 episode 13, titled Danelle Geier, will revisit this case. It will air on Oxygen on November 3, 2024, at 6 pm ET. Before the episode airs, here is everything you need to know about this case.

Danelle Geier and George Ishler plotted and killed Penn State Professor Ronald Bettig

56 years old Ronald Bettig graduated from both the University of California and the University of Illinois. Bettig was a media studies professor at Penn State University and also wrote a few books. Unfortunately, he was discovered deceased in August 2016. His body was discovered at the bottom of Blackhawk Quarry in Potter Township, as per reports by the Centre Daily Times.

Reportedly, when Ronald Bettig went missing, his friends, Danelle Geier and George Ishler, filed a missing complaint report three days after he didn't show up at his home. His automobile had also disappeared. However, when the investigations began, the professor was discovered to have died.

Initially, Ronald Bettig's death looked like a suicide. However, the authorities suspected Ishler and Geier of his death. Allegedly, Ishler, Geier, and the victim shared a common interest in marijuana.

Authorities alleged that Ishler and Geier killed their companion for financial gain. As per reports, Professor Bettig reportedly signed a will shortly before his death. This will would take effect upon his death and Ishler and Geier would benefit the most from it.

Allegedly, some documents proved that Ishler and Geier had plotted to kill the victim initially by drowning, and later changed the plan, and pushed him to his death. Other text messages that also surfaced showed Geier and Ishler guilty.

During interrogations, Ishler finally pleaded guilty and confessed to pushing Bettig. As per reports by CBS, Geier also revealed to the police that she and Ishler staged this homicide to make it look like a suicide or a disappearance. Therefore, they hid his car and reported his death 3 days later after killing him.

Sentencing

Initially, Danelle Geier and George Ishler were arrested in 2016 and charged with first and third-degree murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and evidence tampering. In April 2018, after Ishler pleaded guilty, he and his partner in crime, Danelle Geier, were again found guilty of the murder of the professor by the jury.

Danelle Geier and George Ishler were eventually sentenced to life without chances of parole in 2018, and are serving their life sentences in separate correctional facilities.
