As reported by CBS, he was arrested initially on September 18, 2014, for the brutal murder of 59-year-old Florida Resident Jill Halliburton Sue who was also the grand-niece of the founder of the Halliburton Oil empire.
Currently, Dayonte Resiles is in prison in Florida, serving his life sentence.
Season one episode 6 of The Real CSI: MIAMI titled Haliburton Horror all set to air on CBS on June 31, 2024, will showcase this horrendous crime that took place in South Florida at Sue’s billion-dollar residence on September 4, 2014.
Why was Dayonte Resiles arrested?
Dayonte Resiles, also known as Moochie, was charged with the murder of Jill Halliburton Su after his DNA was found at the crime scene. He had a long criminal history, including eight juvenile arrests, which made him easy to track.
After being arrested on September 18, 2014, he escaped from custody on July 15, 2015, with help from inmates, but was recaptured by Florida police six days later when he surrendered peacefully.
While in jail, Dayonte Resiles was given a phone which the detectives secretly tapped. As per the records, Dayonte called his friends and family and asked for money and a fake alibi. However, he did not confess to killing Su. The jurors used Dante's call records and his attempt to escape against him during the hearing.
As reported by WSVN, Dayonte's first trial in court was a mistral as three of the jurors agreed and said -
"I don’t want to send a young Black male to jail for the rest of their life or have him get the death sentence."
However, as reported by WSVN, the jury found Dante guilty of first-degree murder in March after the retrial, on March 18, 2022.
Even after hearing his life sentence, Dayonte Resiles did not confess to the mortal sin. Here is what he said in the courtroom-
“They can hook me up to a polygraph test at any given time, ask me any question they wish, and my answer would remain the same. I did not kill Mrs. Su"
The victim's husband referred to the assassin and said-
"The real evil looks like that. That is the face of evil sitting right there.”
What happened to Jill Halliburton Su?
Jill Halliburton Su was found dead by her son Justin inside their residence on September 4, 2014. While Sue lay inside the bathtub, stabbed and unconscious with her hands tied, Justin tried to revive her by giving CPR but failed, after which he called 911.
Sue was stabbed 25 times, and two knives were found at the crime scene—one in the bathtub and one outside the house. Detectives think either one or both knives could be linked to the murder or there might have been two intruders. An alarm box and a green belt were also found, and there were signs of a break-in. While items in the room were scattered, nothing was stolen.
The detectives initially questioned Justin and Mr. Su a few hours after the murder, however, they were later cleared from the suspect list on further interrogation and investigation. When Dayonte Resiles's DNA was found at the crime scene, he was charged with the murder of Jill Halliburton Su.
The detectives assumed that Dayonte Resiles must have entered the house to rob expensive jewelry and money however when he spotted Mrs Sue, he killed her and escaped from the back door of the house.
