Where is Dennis Bowman now? All about Aundria Bowman's killer from Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter

Netflix's latest two-part docu-series, Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, focuses on the case of Aundria Bowman's murder, which also involved her adoptive father Dennis Bowman, a man with a rich criminal history. The series traces how Cathy Terkanian, the biological mother of Aundria, pursued the truth relentlessly till Dennis Bowman was ultimately punished for his crime.

The case, which has many, many intriguing twists and turns, is the subject of Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter. The synopsis for the series reads:

"A tenacious mother unravels the complex mystery surrounding the 1989 disappearance of the daughter she placed for adoption."

While Dennis Bowman escaped conviction for most of his life, living as a free man for nearly 40 years despite committing some unspeakable acts of violence against multiple women, he was finally punished in 2022 for the murder of Aundria Bowman, whom he murdered and hid in his backyard for years, all the while pretending that the young girl had run away.

He remains in prison as of now and will do so until the end of his life. Yet, his punishment does not feel satisfactory enough as he managed to evade the police for so long.

Who is Dennis Bowman and what did he do?

When 17-year-old Cathy Terkanian had a daughter, she could not keep her and had to give her up for adoption. After spending some time in foster care, the baby was taken by the Bowmans, who named her Aundria.

Unknown to most, Dennis Bowman, the patriarch of the family, was a violent man with twisted s*xual tendencies. Dennis had assaulted a young girl on May 23, 1980, and once again on February 2, 1981, following which he was arrested and sentenced to 5 to 10 years in prison. Aundria was six years old at the time and reportedly visited her adoptive father with her adoptive mother, Brenda.

He was released in 1986 and by 1988, Aundria had accused him of molesting her after her school authorities noted that something was wrong with her. Following this accusation, a social worker tried to confront him, but both he and his wife denied the accusations and claimed that Aundria was retaliating after finding out that she was adopted.

Shortly after this, they moved to a mobile home in a rural area of Allegan County. Aundria was last seen here before her family reported her missing. Dennis Bowman also claimed that she had stolen money from him before running away.

However, her biological mother, Cathy, did not believe this and continued to persuade the truth with the help of some like-minded individuals like Detective John Smith and Carl Koppelman.

Meanwhile, Dennis Bowman was arrested once again in 1998 for breaking and entering into the home of a coworker in Ottawa County to steal items.

After a long pursuit, where Cathy also helped the police with clues, Dennis was finally arrested in November 2019 for the unsolved homicide of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle in Norfolk, Virginia. This case, too, dates back to 1980 and involved assault and murder.

Finally, after his arrest, Detective Smith managed to extract Aundria's whereabouts from Dennis. Dennis claimed that the death of Aundria was accidental as she fell down the stairs and died after he hit her. He went on to wrap her body in a blanket and hide her body in a blanket before cutting it up and putting it in a barrel.

He reportedly moved the barrel once again when they relocated, such was the extent of his twisted mind.

Where is Dennis Bowman now?

Dennis was sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of Kathleen Doyle in Norfolk and was also handed 35 to 50 years for the murder of Aundria Bowman. He was extradited to Virginia after his conviction in Michigan.

He will remain in prison until the end of his life.
