The Collins family was turned upside down when Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, two cousins, vanished in Evansdale, Iowa, without a trace on July 13, 2012. They were found dead in Seven Bridges Wildlife Park on December 5, 2012. However, till today, their case remains unsolved and is explored in HBO Max’s Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth?
However, the children's loved ones haven't given up hope about finding answers one day, especially the then-eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins’ parents, Heather and Drew Collins. The HBO Max three-part series investigates one of the most spine-chilling and haunting double abduction cases with exclusive access and insider interviews.
Coming from-time filmmaker Dylan Sires, a former photographer on the case who has been documenting and interviewing people for over seven years, the series made its way to the streaming platform on August 8, 2024.
About Drew and Heather Collins, Elizabeth Collins' parents: Where are they now?
Heather and Drew Collins were devastated about the disappearance of their beloved daughter, but they processed her death quite differently. Heather turned into herself and internalized her feelings, as she also had three other children and her family to look after.
Drew, meanwhile, had his emotions and grief consume him. The initial days were better for him, as he was engrossed in the mission of finding their daughter. But as hope for finding Elizabeth got bleaker, he broke down and was consumed by grief.
The relationship between the couple soon soured, and it boiled over to an extent where they argued constantly, and he became aggressive. He often took out his anger on materialistic items and thrashed their living room or went to the backyard to let out all his anger out.
Filled with despair over having lost Elizabeth and not having any safe way of coping with the rift between them, Heather filed for divorce in 2017, and they finalized everything amicably.
What happened to Drew and Heather after the divorce?
Even after their divorce, Heather and Drew still shared the same priority, to be good parents to their other children and find out the answers to Elizabeth Collins' death. As of now, they are both still single residents of Iowa, where they are doing their best to keep their late daughter’s legacy alive and be good parents to their children.
Drew still keeps a line of communication open with law enforcement officers in case any information on Elizabeth Collins turns up. He has also established the Elizabeth Collins Foundation after their daughter, with his ex-wife. Drew serves as the non-profit organization’s president, while Heather serves as its secretary.
Their goal is to help other families of missing people by partnering with other organizations and bringing awareness to cold cases in hopes that one day answers can be found.
In a 2022 interview, Heather commented:
“It’s the first thing you think of in the morning and the last at night. For me, it’s very fresh. Doesn’t seem like 10 years. I can’t think of anything that’s been harder in my life than losing Elizabeth.
"You’re trying to make sense out of something that is very senseless. I look at those little girls and I think, ‘How could any normal human being hurt those little girls?'”
Drew and Heather have no intention of stopping to look for answers, as they believe that their daughter and niece deserve justice.
