Gary Farris's Murder Case

According to People Magazine, Gary Farris was reported missing in July 2018 from his home in Cherokee County. It later was discovered on the family property as initially presumed to be an accident gone wrong. Later examination found a bullet in his rib cage; it meant that indeed he was murdered.

According to People Magazine, the wife, Melody Farris, quickly became the suspect and she was promptly taken in and charged with the murder. Prosecutors contended that financial squabbles and Melody's adultery provided motives for the crime because Melody was listed as the beneficiary of Gary's $2 million life insurance policy.

Investigation and Trial

According to 11ALIVE, the investigation into Gary Farris' murder was quite in-depth. Initially, the scene appeared to be a tragic accident. However, with the discovery of a bullet, the course of the investigation changed. Evidence that authorities discovered proved Melody attempted to cover her tracks by burning Gary's body.

According to 11ALIVE, at the trial, Melody claimed her innocence, accusing her son Scott of the crime. However, the jury ultimately found her guilty of all the counts, malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing the death of another, and making false statements.

According to 11ALIVE, District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway stated,

“The disturbing facts of this case, complex investigation, and long prosecution have taken the focus away from the fact that an innocent man was brutally murdered and burned on his own property. A good man was lost on that day, and a family was forever divided. This horrifying crime will remain with us always. Our hope is that this sentence will bring some measure of peace.”
