Goosebumps season 2 premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on January 10, 2025, with weekly episode releases. The plot introduces a new group of characters, including twins Cece and Devin, played by Jayden Bartels and Sam McCarthy, along with Anthony. These characters uncover eerie secrets in their Brooklyn neighborhood, facing supernatural challenges while unraveling past events that connect to the lore.

The 2023 TV series Goosebumps, based on R.L. Stine’s popular book series, uses several real-world locations to create its spooky settings. The story takes place in the fictional town of Port Lawrence, which doesn’t exist in real life. The series was filmed in various parts of British Columbia, Canada, and later expanded to include locations in New York for its second season.

The show features a talented cast, including Justin Long as Nathan Bratt, a teacher who becomes possessed by the ghost of Harold Biddle, along with Ana Yi Puig, Will Price, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, and Miles McKenna as the five teenagers at the heart of the story. The second season introduces David Schwimmer as Anthony Brewer.

Cloverdale and Maple Ridge were key locations for the show. Minnekhada Lodge in Cloverdale served as the Biddle House, which is central to the story, as it is where Harold Biddle’s death and the Halloween party that starts the supernatural events take place. Maple Ridge was another important location.

Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School, located there, became Port Lawrence High School. Many scenes featuring the teenage characters and their possessed teacher, Nathan Bratt, were filmed at this location.

Several scenes were filmed in North Vancouver. Cates Park provided scenic views with trees and coastal landscapes, giving the town of Port Lawrence a small-town feel. The Deep Cove Yacht Club was used for an aerial shot of the town in the first episode, with CGI added to make it look more rural. Deep Cove North Shore Marina and Rentals served as the Harbor Stop diner, a regular meeting place for the teens in the show.

Behind the scenes: Filming insights and trivia

The production of Goosebumps involved a blend of creativity and technical expertise to bring the eerie world of R.L. Stine’s stories to life. According to Atlas of Wonders, CGI was heavily used to enhance certain scenes, such as the aerial view of Port Lawrence filmed at Deep Cove Yacht Club. Buildings were digitally removed, and a high school and football field were added to give the fictional town a rural feel.

The cast and crew worked in challenging environments to capture the spooky atmosphere. Filming at Whistler Olympic Park involved dealing with snow-covered landscapes, which not only added to the visual appeal but also posed logistical challenges. Similarly, shooting underground at the Britannia Mine Museum required careful planning to effectively utilize the museum’s tunnels while ensuring safety.

Trivia fans will enjoy knowing that Minnekhada Lodge, which served as the Biddle House, has a history of being used for weddings and events. Its rustic charm and location in Minnekhada Regional Park made it an ideal choice for the central haunted house in the series. Additionally, the Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School retained its mascot, Tommy Titan, for the series, providing a nod to its real-life identity.

The second season of Goosebumps introduced new filming experiences in New York, with David Schwimmer joining the cast. The Battery Baker scenes were particularly noteworthy for incorporating CGI to recreate the 1990s New York skyline. Locations like Avenue X Station and Astoria Park added authenticity to the Brooklyn setting, enhancing the show’s expansion beyond British Columbia.
