Why did Hugo Ariel Jimenez and Brian Aquino murder Adriana Pinon?
At the time of the murder, Adriana Pinon was only 19 years old and was trying to break into the industry as an actress. Hugo Ariel Jiminez was a friend of hers who allegedly had a romantic interest in her. However, as per the prosecutors and the police, Adriana Pinon rejected his advances, leading him to plan a revenge plot against her.
Pinon was found shot to death in the back of the head in her family's residence in the Skyline neighborhood of the city of San Diego on January 31, 2002. The police conducted thorough interviews with friends and family members to single out Brian Aquino and Hugo Ariel Jiminez.
Weeks after the murder, Hugo was taken in for questioning. He lied to the authorities that he had not been in Adriana's house in a long time. However, his fingerprints were found at the scene, leading the police to make him the primary suspect. Hugo and Brian's DNAs was also reportedly found on two drinking glasses found near the victim’s body.
The authorities alleged that Brian and Hugo went to rob Adriana Pinon as revenge for breaking Hugo's heart. While Brian, who was only 17 at the time, watched television, Hugo conversed with Adriana. Their conversation got heated and soon Hugo asked Brian to take out the car and be ready. He went on to shoot her in the head and escape.

The duo were arrested shortly after the investigation yielded the results. Both pleaded not guilty at first, but with the trial approaching, Brian Aquino pleaded guilty to robbery and being an accessory to the crime. For this charge, he was sentenced to several years in prison.
Hugo Ariel Jimenez went to trial and was found guilty of the murder and was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. He is currently incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California.
