Hulu's Betrayal: A Father's Secret brought forth the story of Jason Lytton, a convicted s*x offender who was found with thousands of p*rnographic pictures of minor girls. However, before that revelation, Jason Lytton lived a seemingly ordinary life with his wife of ten years and three children. Despite that, he continued to harbor this dark secret.
Like its prequel on Hulu, Betrayal: A Father's Secret focused on the perspective of people close to him and their reaction to the revelation. It is worth noting that his stepdaughter was one of his victims, and his wife was the one who got him arrested. They moved out of the house after his arrest.
Another interesting character in the docu-series was Justin Lytton, Jason Lytton's brother, and a police officer. Despite his profession, he allegedly did not help Ashley Lytton after the latter found out about her husband.
Who is Justin Lytton?
Justin Lytton was Jason Lytton's elder brother, and has remained close to the family since Ashley's marriage to Jason. Justin was a regular visitor, and both Ashley and Jason went to him for advice whenever something difficult came up.
As a professional, Justin Lytton, ironically, was a respected police officer. He joined the Utah Department of Corrections in 2005 and served there for over a decade. In 2017, he left the previous role in favor of a different opportunity.
He joined the Unified Police Department of Salt Lake City as a police officer in 2017 and continues to serve there. Alongside being a respected police officer, Justin is also a small business owner. He sells high-quality, custom-made holsters for firearms online.
Ashley notified Justin Lytton before going to the police
After Ashley found out the thousands of child p*rnography photos that Jason Lytton possessed, she first contacted his brother, Justin, to seek more clarity. Justin had also previously helped Ashley deal with Jason's mental health issues, which plagued him for years.
Ashley called Justin to take a look at the pictures she had found, but Justin's response shocked Ashley. Justin tried to defend his brother and asked Ashley not to go to the police. He also allegedly claimed that the pictures could be of adults and that she should talk to Jason first.
This response did not sound right to Ashley, who went to the police anyway and helped them get her husband arrested. She also realized that Justin was going to be on his brother's side, even when the latter was completely wrong.
Justin Lytton stayed by the side of Jason Lytton during and after his conviction
Justin Lytton not only distanced himself from Ashley and the rest of the family but he also stood by his brother in his conviction. Much to the disappointment of all those involved, Jason was only sent to prison for a year and got out with probation in August 2023.
Since then, he has gone to live with Justin in Herriman, Utah. As of now, Jason continues to live with his brother. Justin Lytton also continues to work for the police as of now.
The shocking case is the subject of Betrayal: A Father's Secret, which covers it in more extensive detail.
