Filming locations of Kaos explored
Netflix's Kaos has been filmed across various locations in Spain, with a small part of the filming happening in the United Kingdom. Filming was initially set to begin in the summer of 2020 but following the COVID-19 outbreak, it was delayed. Principal photography of Kaos began on August 22, 2022, and the show was wrapped up after 108 days of filming, on December 15, 2022. Some scheduled reshoots took place later, and the series finally wrapped up on May 16, 2023.
Andalucía, Spain
Kaos Season 1 was primarily shot in the Andalucía region, particularly along Costa del Sol, which is a famous stretch of coastline in southern Spain, and in the city of Almería. Costa del Sol is renowned for its beautiful beaches, agreeable climate, and luxury resorts, which make it the perfect backdrop for the show. Other shooting locations in this region include Málaga, Torremolinos, Marbella, and Axarquía.
Málaga is a historic port city where most of the scenes of the show were shot. The Calle Parras street in Málaga was transformed by the production team to look like a messy backstreet. The scene where Dionysus makes a call from a phone booth while people play basketball in the background is shot here. The sports court in the background was revamped with graffiti and the phone box was installed here.
The Lagunillas Street and La Palmilla of Málaga were also used to capture a chase sequence. The palm-lined street of Alameda de Colón was also utilized for shooting and the stunning sights of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso promenade served as a backdrop for shooting street segments. Even the shopping Centre El Ingenio, located at Av del Rey Juan Carlos I, Vélez-Málaga, saw the filming of a few street scenes.
Torremolinos, a municipality south of Málaga, served the production team for shooting sequences in the town center and the ancient maritime city of Cádiz, and the arid landscapes of Los Montes can also be seen featured in the show.
The city of Almería, especially its long stretch of coast and historical buildings, also features in the series. On the east of the city, there is a historical church of Ermita de Torregarcía, Cabo de Gata, which the crew used as a backdrop, with the beach of Playa de Torre Garcia coming up in the background.
Almería is home to Alcazaba, a massive Moorish fortress, and a charming old town with picturesque streets and buildings, which was also utilized by the filming crew. Seville and its grand architectural landscape were featured in multiple scenes of Kaos, lending to the show an ancient air. The Plaza de España in Moncloa served as the main filming site in the city, involving 700 local extras, artists, and technical experts.
Madrid, Spain
The production crew of Kaos traveled to the capital city of Madrid for the second phase of filming. It is here that segments of Zeus’ mansion were captured in a luxurious property, which was used as the primary filming site in the city. The sprawling historical city of Valencia was another filming location of Kaos.
United Kingdom
While most of the shooting for Kaos happened in Spain, a portion of the initial shooting and reshooting took place in the capital city of England, London. London houses some of the most advanced filming studios in the world and shows like Killing Eve and The Crown were shot here.
