The upcoming episode of NBC's Dateline will cover the case of Nicholas Rossi, also known as Nicholas Alahverdian and Arthur Knight, among other aliases. The man from Rhode Island was accused of s*xual assault, convicted of fraud, and accused of committing many other atrocities. Apart from all this, he also faked his death and tried to keep up the pretense of a fake identity when authorities found out about it.
The case will be the subject of Dateline season 33 episode 10, which premieres at 9 pm EST on NBC. The episode is titled Man of Many Faces, alluding to the tremendous amount of drama that has gone with and around Nicholas Rossi.
After initially faking his death and escaping the United States, Rossi was identified in Glasgow, Scotland, going by the name of Arthur Knight. He also had a person, only identified as his widow, mourn his death publicly. However, he was ultimately arrested at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on December 13, 2021, while he was undergoing treatment for COVID-19.
Nicholas Rossi kept on pretending that he was Arthur Knight and it significantly dragged out the legal battle, which is still ongoing. Nicholas Rossi gave up the pretense of mistaken identity on August 23, 2024, and is currently being held in jail as he awaits a trial. As per reports, his Salt Lake County trial will begin on April 22, 2025.
Who is Nicholas Rossi and what did he do?
Nicholas Alahverdian, who took on many names and aliases throughout his life, is perhaps best known as Nicholas Rossi, after his adoptive father. He was born on July 11, 1987, and allegedly suffered neglect and abuse from a young age. Due to this disarray in his home, he was placed in foster care.
He was also diagnosed with some behavioral issues at a young age, including narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD). Throughout his days in foster care, he alleged that he suffered mental, physical, and s*xual abuse, for which he launched a war against the Department of Children, Youth, & Families (DCYF).
He evolved into a welfare activist and though there were no records of these alleged abuses against him, he continued to fight against Rhode Island's social service system. He ended up voluntarily dismissing the lawsuit after Rhode Island waived his medical expenses debt of around US$200,000.
Darker things about Nicholas Rossi started emerging in 2008 when he was accused of groping a Sinclair Community College student. He was also accused of assault the same year, which was verified years later in 2018.
Nicholas Rossi was accused of multiple other cases of harassment, assault, and domestic violence, among other more serious charges like kidnapping. He reportedly had accusations of crimes ranging from 2007 through 2019 in four different states.
He was also involved in a massive credit card fraud in 2020, following which he faked his own death and fled the United States.
Where is Nicholas Rossi now?
In 2020, Rossi was seemingly diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which led to his alleged death. Soon, however, authorities figured out that this was not the case, and though the process of reaching this conclusion was a long one, Rossi was eventually found in Glasgow, Scotland, living under the alias of Arthur Knight.
He was finally identified and arrested while receiving treatment for COVID-19 at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. He was allegedly identified by his distinctive scars and tattoos. However, he continued claiming that it was a case of mistaken identity.
He was eventually arrested and incarcerated at Edinburgh prison before being extradited to Utah to face the charges of assault. He finally dropped his claims of mistaken identity in a Utah court on August 23, 2024.
He remains in prison with his trial date allegedly set for April 22, 2025.
The upcoming episode of Dateline will give more insight into this case.
