Snapped Season 34 episode 3 is all set to focus on the murder of Adrian Zapata by Olga Vasquez-Collazos and Robert Rafael Saavedra Gallardo that took place at Zapata's apartment in Brookhurst Street on May 22, 2014.
To this day, this has been one of the most bloody and gruesome love murder cases in the history of California, which took crime authorities years to build and gather ample evidence.
Although there was no circumstantial evidence found to charge Olga and Robert for the murder of Adrian Zapata, the police found text messages, a hidden mobile, and pictures of Olga and Robert's illicit love affair.
Authorities even tracked the location of the two accused through their mobile devices which revealed that they were near the scene of crime at the time of the murder but it was initially not enough to arrest them. Vasquez-Collazos was finally convicted in 2021 and the motive was said to be financial.
Olga Vasquez-Collazos is now in prison in the US serving her sentence for conspiring with Robert Rafael Saavedra Gallardo to murder her husband.
What did Olga Vasquez-Collazos do?
Olga Vasquez-Collazos killed her husband Adrian Zapata in 2014 in conspiracy with her lover Robert Gallardo. Zapata’s body was found in his apartment in Brookhurst Street. According to the reports, Zapata was killed by Gallardo while he was sleeping. Gallardo had the keys to the house from beforehand. It was a staged and pre-planned murder, which was made to look like a robbery.
Gallardo and Olga were having a long-time love affair. The couple killed Adrian Zapata to settle their love lives and also for financial gain. Olga Vasquez-Collazos was the first one to report the staged murder, which was made to look like a robbery by the two.
However, the police found tons of evidence including a secret cell, cellphone records, and even social media messages, that pointed to Gallardo and Olga Vasquez-Collazos having a long-term affair.
Olga Vasquez-Collazos and Robert had two sons however their marriage was a one-sided love affair. Her husband was not a rich man which had Collazos disappointed. She would often meet Gallardo and even planned on moving out with him.
However, things got out of hand when Zapata confronted Robert about his love affair with his wife. Adrian Zapata had found illicit pictures and text messages of the two, which forced him to go forward with the confrontation.
Robert murdered Zapata in his home, while he was in bed, tired and resting after duty. There were multiple stab wounds on his neck and shoulders and he had a fractured skull from two blows to the back of his head, as per law enforcement reports.
Why did Olga Vasquez-Collazos and Robert Rafael Saavedra Gallardo kill Adrian Zapata?
Adrian Zapata was not a very wealthy man with a lot of assets and money. However, his wife and her lover conspired to kill him so that they could live a life together. They could have lived a happy life with the money and property Adrian owned.
Zapata had life insurance, some property in Peru, and money from his 401k fund as revealed by attorney Janine Madera. The lovers could have killed Zapata and then started a fresh life with whatever the victim owned for himself and his family.
Although Olga Vasquez tried to get away with the murder by faking alibis, the crime officers found out about her affair, which connected her straight to the crime. Olga was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison and Roberto Gallardo was charged with murder.
