The story of the series is set in the Lake of the Ozarks region in Missouri, but most of its shooting is done in and near Atlanta, Georgia. The sole purpose of filming the series in Georgia was to offer the filmmakers tax breaks, which helped them cut costs.

Ozark's primary filming locations - Flowery Branch, Chicago, and more

1) Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier, Georgia

Most of the water scenes were filmed at these two lakes which are close to Atlanta. These places were used to represent the Lake of the Ozarks which looked the same in the series.

Lake Allatoona is about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta and is famous for boating and fishing. Lake Lanier is about an hour away in the northeast of Atlanta and is famous for its beautiful shoreline and fun activities.

2) Flowery Branch, Georgia

The Bryde family house is located in Flowery Branch, by Lake Lanier, off Gaines Ferry Road with Bailey Drive. This private house has a dock that can be accessed from Van Pugh North Park. The house is right by the lake, giving it a peaceful and sometimes scary look.

3) Chicago, Illinois

Some of the important scenes, including Marty Byrde's life before moving to the Ozarks, were filmed in Chicago. The famous places include the BP Pedestrian Bridge in Millennium Park, East Lake Street, and North Garland Court in Downtown Chicago.

The locations are used to show how Marty’s life changed after moving from a bustling city to a silent and peaceful countryside.

4) Canton, Georgia

The Blue Cat Lodge is a key place in the first two seasons and was made from an old restaurant close to Lake Allatoona. This temporary place was Marty's first business in the Ozarks. It shows how makers can use real locations for various purposes.

5) Braselton, Georgia

The scene in which Del Rio hurts Marty in the last episode of the first season was shot at the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. This luxurious resort was close to where a lot of violence happened.

6) Westview Abbey and Cemetery, Atlanta

Westview Abbey and Cemetery is a big cemetery in Atlanta. It was used to shoot the scene where Helen Pierce dies in the last episode of season 3. The location added more depth to this emotional and dramatic scene.

7) Norcross, Georgia

The outside of the strip club Lickety Splitz was recorded at an empty building close to Motel 6 on Oakbrook Parkway in Norcross. The inside parts were shot at a studio called Eagle Rock Studios, which is also in Norcross.

8) Savannah, Georgia

The Big Muddy Casino scenes were shot in Savannah and the ship was parked in front of Joe's Crab Shack restaurant on River Street. Savannah's old riverfront and pretty Southern buildings made a nice background different from the intense casino scenes.

9) Alpharetta, Georgia

Darlene Snell's house, which viewers see often in the show, is at 777 Rivendell Lane. This house was important in the story about Darlene and Wyatt Langmore. The house is in a quiet country area, showing how much the Snells care about their land and how fiercely they protect it.

10) Duluth, Georgia

Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth is the same mall that is also shown in Stranger Things season 3. The abandoned mall scenes for Ozark season 4 were filmed in that mall. The empty hallways and closed shops in the mall matched the show's ideas about things falling apart and being empty.

11) Downtown Chicago

The scene in the first episode of Ozark where Wendy’s lover was thrown from a building was shot at East Lake Street and North Garland Court in Downtown Chicago. The high city buildings made the fall look real.

12) Woodlake, Buford Dam Rd

The private residence at Woodlake Dr, off Buford Dam Rd, was used for the scene where Javi Elizonndro kills Sheriff Nix. The residential setting showed how crime had become a part of daily life.

Ozark has used different places near Atlanta, Georgia, and some scenes in Chicago and Savannah to make it feel real and rough. Choosing these locations carefully helped in making the show look good and relevant.
