The Boys season 4 has many fans wondering about the whereabouts of Queen Maeve. With the release of the first three episodes, new storylines and character dynamics have emerged, yet Dominique McElligott's Queen Maeve is noticeably absent. Considering Maeve's significant presence in the first three seasons, her absence has sparked curiosity and concern among viewers.

Queen Maeve played a vital role in the series, particularly in her confrontations with Homelander and efforts to protect the innocent. Her absence in season 4 has led fans to speculate whether Maeve has met her end or if she will return later in the season.

At the end of season 3, Maeve fakes her death to escape the clutches of Homelander and Vought, and she is currently in hiding with her girlfriend Elena and hence is missing from season 4.

On the other hand, The Boys showrunner has assured fans that Queen Maeve's story is not yet over. In an interview with Deadline, he said,

"We definitely won't reach the end of the series without seeing Maeve again."

Where is Queen Maeve in The Boys season 4?

After a bloody battle with Homelander, which cost her an eye, Maeve fought Soldier Boy and prevented his powers from killing The Boys. She vanished without leaving a trace to shield herself and her girlfriend Elena from anything harmful.

Vought CEO Ashley Barrett comes across footage of Maeva's survival but opts to erase it rather than reveal that she survived. This way, both Homelander and Vought cannot locate them. The Boys also knew of her survival and assisted in her concealment, ensuring she stayed safe.

Despite the world believing she died in the season 3 finale, she survived the explosion caused by Soldier Boy. However, the radiation from the explosion neutralized the Compound V in her system, resulting in her losing her superpowers. Showrunner Eric Kripke has hinted that Maeve could return in future episodes, although he did not specify when.

While her absence in the initial episodes of season 4 is notable, Kripke's comments suggest that Maeve's story is not over. Fans can remain hopeful that she will reappear, possibly later in season 4 or the final season.

What happened to Queen Maeve in The Boys season 3?

In the final episode of the third installment, Maeve fights Homelander, fiercely demonstrating her strength and resilience. Nevertheless, she stood up to him despite having lost an eye. The fight was disrupted when Soldier Boy threatened them with a deadly nuclear explosion he had set.

To guard her friends from this missile explosion, Maeve sacrificed herself by pushing Soldier Boy out of a window, resulting in an impact absorbing the blast.

At first, she was presumed dead, but it was later discovered that she survived the blast. Unfortunately, Compound V, neutralized by Soldier Boy's radiation, took away all her powers as a superhero. Thus, this turns out to be bittersweet because Maeve will enjoy life without being a supe, as she has done previously.

Maeve and Elena reunite and decide to live free from Homelander by leading private lives. Last and most importantly, Starlight bids an emotional farewell to Maeve, marking the end of her journey as a supe and symbolizing freedom from bondage. Maeve's survival is kept a secret, with Vought CEO Ashley Barrett deleting the CCTV footage that could expose her, ensuring her safety.

Queen Maeve's story is not over, even though it has yet to be confirmed whether she will return in season four. If things are to go by Eric Kripke's statements, her journey may resume at some point before the series ends. This could mean the character is being saved for a big comeback in the final season, thus giving her an appropriate ending.

By going from one of The Seven's most prominent members to a fugitive who must hide away, Queen Maeve becomes more believable as a character and emphasizes how much she has given up. Maeve fans hope that she will resurface and round out her tale, perhaps even in some crucial role related to the climax of the show.
