Ralf Panitz was the prime accused in the murder of Nancy Campbell-Panitz following their appearance on The Jerry Springer Show in the 2000s. Netflix’s latest docuseries Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action is set to reexamine the events of the case.
Nancy's murder left the entertainment industry shaken to the core. She was discovered murdered in her own home following her appearance on Springer's controversial talk show. Investigations soon brought to light the role Ralf Panitz and his lover Eleanor played in the horrific murder case after the trio engaged in heated arguments about their relationships with each other in an episode of The Jerry Springer Show.
Ralf was found guilty of second-degree murder in the murder of Nancy and he remains incarcerated for life. Netflix's Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, which premiered on January 7, will explore in detail this case.
How did Ralf Panitz meet Nancy Campbell-Panitz? Where is he now?
Nancy Campbell was very young when she lost her husband. Despite this, she managed to make a good life for herself and her sons and was not interested in dating or remarrying. However, when her friend introduced her to AOL chatrooms, everything changed. She connected with a German man named Ralf Panitz on the platform who was 12 years younger than her and Nancy felt that it was her second chance at love.
Ralf relocated to the US around a year after the duo made their relationship official and they got married soon after. Little did Nancy know that Ralf was not the man she thought him to be. Soon his domestic violence and infidelity issues came to light.
Only 15 months after their marriage, Ralf and Nancy divorced and the former became romantically involved with another local woman named Eleanor.
However, Nancy and Ralf continued their dalliance until July 2000 when the couple along with Eleanor were featured on The Jerry Springer Show, on an episode titled Secret Mistresses Confronted. Eleanor and Ralf made fun of Nancy and accused her of stalking them, to the point that Nancy had to walk out even before giving a concluding statement.
Despite this, the couple once again fell back to their old patterns. Nancy briefly reconciled with Ralf but soon requested a restraining order to be issued against him on grounds of domestic violence. On July 24, 2000, the day of the court hearing regarding the same matter as well as the day of airing of their Jerry Springer episode, Nancy was found brutally murdered in her home.
What happened to Ralf Panitz?
It was fairly easy for investigators to find out who murdered Nancy Campbell-Panitz. While requesting a restraining order, she informed the court that Ralf had threatened to take her life. Moreover, investigators discovered 18 footprints at the crime scene that matched Ralf's shoes. Even his DNA was found under the victim's fingernails.
Both Ralf and Eleanor were in custody after they tried to flee. They ultimately surrendered and Ralf Panitz was charged with murdering Nancy Campbell-Panitz. He was found guilty of second-degree murder and also violating his domestic violence restraining order. Panitz was sentenced to life in prison and he remains incarcerated at the mixed-security Marion Correctional Institution, Marion County, Florida.
