Erik and Lyle Menendez have reunited in prison
Erik and Lyle Menendez were sentenced on July 2, 1996, after a second trial and sent to jail without parole. In the trial, the brothers claimed that their father se*ually abused them, and their mother was aware of it and did not do anything about the matter. Therefore they shot their parents multiple times.
However, shortly after the crimes were committed, the brothers started spending the family wealth on luxury cars, watches, and more, which was convincing for the jury to make an alleged claim that the Menendez brothers killed their parents for money and property.
The brothers were kept in separate correction facilities until 2018. On April 4, 2018, they reunited after decades at the Richard J. Donovan facility, where they are incarcerated to date. Reportedly, oin March 2023, a new petition was filed by the Menendez brothers' lawyers, in the hope of a new hearing, after more evidence was recovered in the form of a letter.
A letter, which had been written by Erik before the homicide, to one of his cousins was recovered in 2018. The letter reads:
“I’ve been trying to avoid dad. Its still happening Andy, but its worse for me now... I never know when its going to happen and its driving me crazy. Every night I stay up thinking he might come in.”
