What did Robert and Michael Bever do?
On July 22, 2015, the quiet suburb of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was shaken by the devastating murder of a family executed by two teenage brothers named Robert and Michael Bever. The brothers meticulously planned and carried out the murder of five family members including their parents, David and April Bever, and three of their siblings, Daniel, Christopher, and Victoria.
The attack began late at night around 11:30 PM and was initiated by a 9-1-1 call from the Bever household made by 12-year-old Daniel Bever. He reported that his brother was attacking the family. During the call distressing sounds of commotion and a male voice were heard before the line went dead.
When police arrived at the Bever residence at 709 Magnolia Court they discovered a gruesome scene. Upon entering the home they found multiple victims with severe stab wounds. The parents, David and April Bever had suffered fatal injuries with David receiving at least 28 stab wounds and April enduring blunt force trauma along with more than 48 wounds. The three deceased children Daniel, Christopher, and Victoria showed multiple sharp force injuries consistent with a violent stabbing attack.
Crystal Bever who was 13 back then was found critically injured but alive, having sustained a slit throat and multiple stab wounds. She was rescued by the police who later identified her brothers Robert and Michael as the assailants. The youngest family member two-year-old Autumn Bever was found unharmed.
Investigations revealed that the brothers had acquired an arsenal of weapons including knives, a hatchet, and protective gear like bulletproof vests and shin guards some of which were found at the crime scene. Robert Bever admitted to acquiring these through funds he obtained from working at a religious call center and planning the murders for some time.
Robert disclosed that the motive behind the killings was not only to liberate themselves from alleged parental abuse but also to initiate a killing spree that would surpass historical mass murders. They intended to kill at least 50 people by targeting random individuals post-familicide. Plans included dismembering their family members' bodies then storing them in bins and escaping in the family car to continue their spree.
After committing the murders the brothers attempted to flee but were apprehended by police in a nearby wooded area shortly after midnight. Both were taken into custody without further incident.
During legal proceedings, Robert Bever pled guilty and received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole. Michael Bever's trial began in 2018 and concluded with him receiving life sentences with the possibility of parole pointing out his younger age and alleged abuse at home as factors.
The story of Robert and Michael Bever will be shown in the episode 2015: Broken Arrow Murders which will air on Investigation Discovery at 7:30 pm ET.
