Where’s Wanda premiered on October 2, 2024, on Apple TV+. The dark comedy series has been directed by Christian Ditter, Tobi Baumann, and Facundo Scalerandi. The show focuses on a couple looking for their missing daughter, Wanda, played by Lea Drinda. The official synopsis of the series reads:

“Desperate parents Dedo and Carlotta Klatt search for their missing daughter months after her disappearance. Frustrated by the police's inability to find her, they investigate their neighbors, uncovering dark secrets behind closed doors.”

Starring Senita Huskic and Brandon Winckler, episode 2, titled The Hessels, explores further details of the case. It revolves around the couple and their attempts to uncover more details about how she went missing. It also delves into Ole, Wanda’s brother, and his romantic interest in a local football player, Alex.

The episode ends with ominous evidence being unearthed. Wanda’s cape is found in the woods, and viewers can hear a deep growl in the background, suggesting that a carnivorous animal may have been responsible for her disappearance.

Where’s Wanda episode 2 delves into the case of Wanda's disappearance

The Hessels opens with a flashback to D-day when Wanda goes missing in the first place. The character also acts as the narrator for the episode, delving into her family background. Viewers are introduced to the Hessels, a seemingly ordinary family, but with a dark past.

The couple has a stash of tranquilizers hidden away in their home and are seen talking about how Wanda might make ‘trouble.’ While the couple does not reveal anything that suggests they were involved in her disappearance, the narrative keeps things open-ended. Further, the episode also deals with the ‘Missing White Woman Syndrome.’

The episode showcases how the media tends to focus more on the race of missing children rather than treating every case with the same importance. Regardless, viewers are also introduced to Ole, Wanda’s brother, who is in a romantic relationship with Alex.

The episode potentially hints at how even Ole is hiding information, as his interaction with a mysterious unnamed girl driving a Volkswagen Beetle suggests that he might know more than he is letting on.

Regardless, the episode eventually delves into Dedo and Carlotta, who are seen breaking into houses in their neighborhood to find out more about their missing daughter. They initially failed to break into a house, but almost get caught while breaking into another.

However, they break into The Hessels’ home, where they uncover another dark secret. As it turns out, Mr. Hessel keeps his wife imprisoned in their home, which has nothing to do with Wanda, but adds a further layer to the dark secrets the neighbor family hides.

The episode ends with the authorities finding Wanda’s cape in the woods near the town, with an ominous growl being heard in the background. The cliffhanger indicates that Wanda’s disappearance could be linked to a menacing animal. Additionally, Officer Rauch is shown investigating the girl in the yellow car.
