The Where's Wanda episode takes viewers through a range of flashback scenes in an attempt to explain everything that happens. Wanda is seen disappearing during a local festival, the Nuppelwocken Night, where she is dressed up as a "strong female."

Her disappearance quickly becomes major news, as many TV channels cover the festival, albeit rather whimsically. The episode sets up two grieving parents against the backdrop of a whimsical society that appears to be more concerned about sensationalizing the incident instead of helping the Klatts find their daughter.
