The upcoming episode of Investigation Discovery's See No Evil will feature the murder of Amanda Gordon, a 30-year-old mother, who was killed by Samuel Byrd, her own husband. The case dates back to December 2019 and remains one of the stand-out cases in the recent history of Cedar Park, Texas.

The upcoming episode of See No Evil, titled The Missing Cameras, will air on August 22, 2024, at 9.00 PM EST on ID. The synopsis for the episode reads:

"When 30-year-old, mother-of-two, Mandi Gordon disappears, investigators turn to CCTV for clues to help them find her; they uncover a complex web of lies and a betrayal that lead to a botched cover-up, and a grisly discovery on a remote ranch in Texas."

As described in the synopsis, as the investigators delved deep into the case, they found a botched cover-up attempt by the perpetrator, Samuel Byrd, who was eventually caught and charged. He was ultimately sentenced to 45 years in prison and continues to remain there as of today.

Ahead of the episode on Investigation Discovery, here is a breakdown of what exactly happened with Amanda Gordon and how Samuel Byrd was involved in the same.

Who is Samuel Byrd and what did he do?

Samuel Byrd was married to Amanda Gordon and they live in Cedar Park, Texas. The couple were together for quite some time and even shared a couple of children. While things seemed fine in the relationship they shared, Samuel Byrd was reportedly emotionally and physically abusive to his wife.

On December 12, 2019, Amanda's mother, who used to keep in touch with her every day, noticed that her daughter was not contacting her at all. Given that she knew about Byrd's violent nature, she immediately called the authorities and asked them to do a welfare check at her house on 2505 Cypress Lane in Cedar Park, Texas.

The authorities could not locate her on the property, but they discovered something sinister soon after. Amanda Gordon's burnt remains were found in a ranch in Bastrop County. Investigators determined that whoever murdered her tried to get rid of the evidence in the process.

On the day the police did the welfare check on Amanda, they had already nearly cracked the case. They met Samuel and his brother, Josiah Byrd, in the house. The house also looked unusually disarrayed when the authorities arrived and Samuel even tried to stop them from entering the premises.

Josiah claimed that he and his brother were doing drugs in their house when Samuel passed out. He woke up to find Amanda dead. He also revealed Samuel was dating another woman.

The authorities searched the property and found blood on the walls, floor, and entryway of the shed, which hinted that the murder possibly took place in the house itself. The authorities also reached out to the woman Samuel Byrd was allegedly dating and she revealed that Samuel left his car with her and asked her to buy cleaning supplies. He also gave her a bag to protect, which reportedly contained a spent shell casing, Amanda’s eyeglasses, Amanda’s cell phone, and a handgun.

This was enough for the authorities to charge and arrest Samuel Byrd, whose brother and girlfriend also testified against him after he called them to clean up the scene of the murder on December 12.

In 2022, he was found guilty of Amanda Gordon's murder and sentenced to 45 years in prison. He is currently serving out his sentence in Mark W. Stiles Unit in Beaumont, Texas.
