The Girl on the Milk Carton is a two-episode docuseries that will premiere on Oxygen on August 25, 2024. The docuseries will explore the tragic case of Jonelle Matthews' disappearance. The 12-year-old girl went missing from Greeley, Colorado in 1984.
The case became a nationwide sensation, the FBI took over the investigation, and even the President of the United States at that time, Ronald Reagan, came forward and spoke about the disappearance. However, the case remained unsolved until 2019, when Jonelle's remains were found.
The investigators decided to contact Angela Hicks, who had reported the suspicious behavior of her husband Steve Pankey during the period of Jonelle's disappearance. The Girl on the Milk Carton also features Angela Hicks, who became the key to solving the case and bringing Pankey to justice.
Hicks is a businesswoman who currently resides in Ketchum, Idaho. She has been serving the community through her enterprise for over three decades.

Angela started dating Steve Pankey in 1978, and the couple soon got married in October that year. After a few years, they moved to Greely, Colorado, and settled at 6086 West 10th Street. Pankey was allegedly physically and emotionally abusive towards Angela and controlled even the minute aspects of her life. She divorced him sometime in the early 2000s.
Angela is an entrepreneurial woman who has been working odd jobs since her childhood. She founded her own property management company, Monarch Property Services, Inc. in 1989 in Ketchum, Idaho, where she currently resides. Her company provides facilities such as housekeeping, property checks, maintenance, laundry, etc.
She maintains a private life, residing alone in Ketchum. Unfortunately, her son Carl was killed on July 4, 2008. The Girl on the Milk Carton features Angela telling her side of the story and how she uncovered the truth behind the shocking disappearance of Jonelle Matthews.
During the period of Jonelle's disappearance, she noticed Pankey's strange behavior. Out of nowhere, he decided to plan a family visit to Big Bear Lake for a couple of days, and after a week, she even found him burning a car. She was suspicious but did not have the agency to act on it.
Angela began to piece together everything during the late 90s and found some clues that connected Pankey to the girl's disappearance. However, the detectives did not act on her suspicion and the case was buried for two more decades. After the recovery of Jonelle's remains in 2019, the investigators got interested in her story and Pankey was brought to justice.
The Girl on the Milk Carton explores the case of Jonelle Matthews
The Girl on the Milk Carton explores the story of Jonelle's disappearance in a two-part docuseries. She disappeared in 1984 from Greely, Colorado, and was one of the first missing children to be pictured on a milk carton. The milk cartons were used during that time to spread awareness about the missing children, by printing their pictures and details on one side.
American President Ronald Reagan talked about Jonelle in his March 7, 1985, speech. Unfortunately, in 2019, her remains were found in a secluded field in Weld County, confirming that the child was murdered. Her killer was given a sentence of 20 years to life imprisonment with chances of parole on October 7, 2022.
However, Pankey did not plead guilty or confess to his crime. He has maintained that he is innocent.
“I am a Christian. I will be in heaven. I am innocent, and this is not justice for Jonelle.” Pankey said while addressing the court after the verdict.
The Girl on the Milk Carton will be available on Oxygen on Sunday, August 25, and the next day on Peacock.
