Subservience is a science fiction thriller directed by S.K. Dale, released on September 13, 2024. Written by April Maguire and Will Honley, the movie describes how unrestrained Artificial Intelligence can lead to a dystopian future.

The story of Subservience revolves around a father of two kids Nick Perretti, whose wife Maggie is admitted to the hospital for a heart disease, that needs an organ transplant. To help, Nick buys an AI Gynoid named Alice, who quickly becomes part of the family. However, things take a dark turn when Alice gains human awareness and tries to take over the family.

Megan Fox and Michele Morrone were announced to star as Alice and Nick, respectively, in December 2022. Filming started on January 7, 2023, at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Filming locations of Subservience explored

Subservience is a production of Millennium Medium in collaboration with Grobman Films and distributed by XYZ Films. Les Weldon, Jeffrey Greenstein, Yariv Lerner, Tanner Mobley, and Jonathan Yunger, serve as the producers of the movie. Dale had earlier worked with Megan Fox, in the 2021 horror action film Till Death.

With Daniel Lindholm serving as the primary cinematographer, Subservience was primarily shot at the Nu Boyana Film Studios, which is located in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Studio was opened back in 1962, after which Millennium Media bought it in 2005.

The studio was used to create some of the most iconic films including Hitman (2006), The Grudge 3 (2009), Olympus Has Fallen (2013), Mechanic: Resurrection (2016), Jolt (2021), Hellboy (2019), Till Death (2021), After We Fell (2021), The Bricklayer (2024), etc.

Sofia, the capital and largest city of Bulgaria, is located in the Sofia Valley near the Iska River and at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. Known for its natural springs and rich historical architecture, Sofia has been inhabited since around 7000 BC.
