The upcoming episode of See No Evil on Investigation Discovery is all set to dive into the brutal murder of Dion Smith at the hands of Terrell Gibson, who never admitted his guilt despite a mountain of direct pieces of evidence. The case remains a mystery in many ways, but thanks to the surveillance footage found from Dion's house, authorities were clear that Terrell Gibson was the murderer.
The case is the subject of See No Evil season 13, episode 8, which will premiere on September 25, 2024, at 9.00 PM EST. Titled Shattered Dreams, the synopsis of the episode reads:
"In a home in downtown Baltimore, a man finds 24-year-old father and youth worker Dion Smith executed with a shotgun. The other residents are cagey, but a suspicious visitor is singled out thanks to telling CCTV outside the victim's door."
Terrell Smith was arrested shortly after the murder and despite him pleading his innocence, the jury found him guilty of the murder. He was ultimately sentenced to 65 years in prison for the murder and another 15 years for unlawful usage of firearms.
He continues to serve his time in prison as of now, and will possibly remain there for a long time to come.
What happened to Dion Smith and who did it?
Dion Smith, a resident of uptown West Baltimore, was found shot to death in his residence in the 1400 block of Argyle Avenue. The police rushed to the scene and discovered that he was killed with a shotgun in one of the most brutal ways imaginable.
As the authorities tried to dig deep into the case, they discovered something that significantly eased the process. The perpetrator was caught in the CCTV camera of Dion Smith's residence. Authorities soon identified this individual as Terrell Gibson, who also had a record of unlawful activities.
As the police looked into Terrell Gibson, they discovered that the 21-year-old was previously arrested for drug dealing and assault. Two years before this incident, Gibson was also arrested for stabbing a person. He was even sent to prison for 18 months after that.
This seemed to indicate that Terrell Gibson was the man behind the murder of Dion Smith.
Where is Terrell Gibson now?
Apart from the CCTV footage, the police also heard witness testimonies that confirmed Terrell Gibson had come in and out during the time Smith was murdered. This was enough reason to pull out an arrest warrant for him.
When he was arrested and brought in, Gibson straight-out denied his involvement in the crime and continued to maintain his innocence even after he was charged with the murder and taken to court.
Despite his pleas of innocence, the evidence against him was enough for the jury to find him guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison, out of which he had to serve 65 years, in addition to 15 years for unlawful usage of a firearm. In total, he was sentenced to prison for 80 years, which means that he will likely spend the rest of his days in prison.
After his sentencing, Gibson addressed Smith's family and said:
"One day, you will find the person guilty of this crime. Once again, I maintain my innocence."
He remains incarcerated at North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, as of now.
The upcoming episode of See No Evil will cover this case in detail.
