Where is The Diplomat season 2 filmed? All shooting locations explored

The Diplomat season 2 premiered on Netflix on October 31, 2024. The six-episode season picks up after the events of season 1, where the crew is dealing with the aftermath of the explosion that killed Merritt Grove. Moreover, the season explores how those close to Kate were hurt in the explosion.

Just like in season 1, The Diplomat season 2 once again takes Keri Russell's Kate Wyler to many locations around the world. Although set in many scenic locations, much of the season is filmed within the UK where London and Scotland are major shooting locations.

Filming locations of The Diplomat season 2 explored

London, England

The majority of The Diplomat season 2 was primarily filmed in London, England. With the show taking place majoritively in the United Kingdom, this is where the primary shooting took place. One of the fanciest locations featured in the show was St. Paul's Cathedral, where the production shot for four days. This was considered a huge feat given it's one of the city's biggest tourist spots.

“Nobody has ever closed St. Paul’s for four full days, which we did,” said supervising location manager E.J. Richards to Tudum.

“Not even the queen,” he added.

A lot of the season's embassy scenes were also filmed at the London North Studios, but a few of them were shot on location as well as at the US Embassy in London. However, most of the season's White House scenes were filmed at the London North Studios. The scenes inside Kate and Hal's private house were filmed in Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.

To film the season's Foreign Office scenes, The Diplomat season 2 was also filmed at One Great George Street, which happens to be Westminster's corporate conference and events venue. However, just like the US embassy scenes, the makers also shot at the real Foreign Office for a few interior and exterior shots.

The season also features scenes shot in the historic Harefield House in the London borough of Hillingdon. The scenes focused on those that involved Prime Minister Trowbridge's residence in the show. One of the scenes meant to look like Paris was also shot at London Marriott Hotel County Hall.

One of the biggest sequences in episode 6 of season 2 was Prime Minister Trowbridge's formal dinner. The sequence involved a huge hall, which was shot on location at Wilton House in Salisbury. The exterior and interior scenes were filmed in former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's residence—Blenheim Palace.

It’s the heart of politics, the heart of diplomacy,” said executive producer Janice Williams.

Scotland, United Kingdom

The second season also takes viewers to Scotland. One of the scenes in the show was filmed at the Inveraray Castle in Scotland. Another scene from the show also saw Hal sneaking away to buy a burner phone, which was shot at the town of Inveraray. However, one of the locations in the show that was supposed to show the lower levels of the city was actually filmed in Argylle.
