Unstable Season 2, the Netflix original comedy series by father-and-son pair Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe, comes with spiraling humor and a quirky cast, both old and new.

The second season picks up right where Unstable Season 1 left off, with eccentric entrepreneur Ellis Dragon (played by Lowe senior) reconnecting with his estranged son Jackson (played by the younger Lowe) as he prepares for a possible stint in prison.

Ellis lays out mind games and challenges to find out if Jackson has what it takes to become the heir of his Dragon empire. But newcomers and a new set of problems will make everything more complicated than they both realize.

Los Angeles, California, served as the main backdrop for filming Unstable Season 2, which has eight episodes that are now streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Unstable Season 2 was filmed around Los Angeles, California

Like the previous season, the filming of Unstable Season 2 was done entirely in California, specifically in and around Los Angeles.

California, which serves as a filming hub for many TV shows and movies, has a variety of landscapes and settings. Los Angeles, in particular, has a vibrant backdrop that captures the chipper and chaotic atmosphere of the world of Dragon Biotechnology.

Most of the important scenes in Unstable Season 2 were filmed in real places all over LA. But the production team also used studio sets for most of the indoor scenes to create specific environments for the series.

They filmed in different neighborhoods and areas around the city and utilized various buildings, residential areas, outdoor courts and other locations to bring Dragon Biotechnology to life.

Combining real and studio settings helps the show appear unique and visually interesting while keeping it authentic for viewers.

Filming for the TV show started late in November 2023 and finished in January this year, with Unstable co-creator and star John Owen Lowe sharing a behind-the-scenes look on social media.

What to expect from Unstable Season 2?

The second season of the Netflix comedy series will expand on the father-and-son dynamic of Ellis and Jackson.

After the events of the Season 1 finale, Ellis is role-playing what it would be like to live in prison in his basement with his therapist in case he goes to jail. Meanwhile, Jackson points out to him how ridiculous it is.

Unstable Season 2 will also focus on Jackson's bid to become the CEO of his father's company. But with his father's eccentricities, anything can happen, and no one knows who his successor will be, especially with someone new entering the picture.

The preview of the new Unstable season also teased jail time for Ellis, although his role-playing may be for naught because he won't be in prison for long. His business partner will help him avoid jail time, and his quest for the new face and CEO of Dragon Industries continues.

Who will be in Unstable Season 2?

Real-life father-and-son Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe are back to reprise their roles as father and son Ellis and Jackson Dragon in Unstable 2. Joining them are other recurring cast members Sian Clifford, Aaron Branch, Rachel Marsh and Emma Pilar Ferreria, among others.

Nevertheless, the second season also introduces new dynamics brought by new faces, like Lamorne Morris's Peter, who's going to be Jackson's rival for the coveted CEO position. Iris Apatow also joins the cast as Georgia, the new intern in the Dragon Industries.
