What is Adam Sandler: Love You about?
The special is directed by Josh Safdie, the co-director of Uncut Gems. Dan Bulla, one of the writers of SNL, has co-written and composed it. The show is 70 minutes long, which has been edited from a three-hour footage taken from six shows, performed by Sandler at the Nocturne Theatre in Glendale, California.
The show was purposefully set in a small and dingy theatre to capture the chaos of these types of shows. Sandler has had a long relationship with Netflix, with many of his projects like Murder Mystery, Spaceman, Hustle, etc, available on the platform.
Sandler talked about Safdie's involvement on the special during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He also said that the special is unusual because it's not just the jokes, as it also includes other footage that happened before, after and during the show:
"It's not a perfect show. Just things that happened that are hopefully funny."
Adam Sandler: Love You will end with an emotional song
Sandler is bringing his signature style of casual comedy with this special but combining it with the flavor of music and chaos. In the clips shared by the actor, the comedian can be seen interacting with the unusually small crowd, cramped into a small and intimate space.
During his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the comedian revealed that the show would end with an emotional song, which would be a tribute to all the comedies who have meant something to him.
He also shared a clip in which he dedicated a song to an audience member. The lyrics of the song went like "guy with a drone, making everybody on the beach today, uncomfortable" making fun of the geeky archetypes.
Adam Sandler fans would recognize that this is his signature style of comedy, mixing humor with personal experiences.
