The Boondocks is an animated TV sitcom by Aaron McGruder. It originally premiered on the late-night Adult Swim programming block on the Cartoon Network. The OG series debuted on the network in November 2005 and ran for four seasons until its finale aired in June 2014.

It's based on McGruder's award-winning 1996 manga-influenced comic strip of the same name about two young African-American brothers, 10-year-old Huey and 8-year-old Riley, who relocated from the rough inner-city Chicago to the suburbs where their granddad Robert Freeman lives.

The official synopsis of the show reads:

"Brothers Huey and Riley Freeman move from the South Side of Chicago to live with their grandfather in the predominantly white suburb of Woodcrest. A clash of lifestyles, class, and culture follows."

There are 55 episodes to complete the four-season run of the show. Viewers can watch all episodes except one, depending on the streaming platform used.

It's because Season 3 Episode 4, titled "The Story of Jimmy Rebel" was banned or removed from streaming due to its "excessive depictions of racism and racial insensitivity."

What is The Boondocks all about?

The series centers on the two main characters, brothers Huey and Riley Freeman, and their harsh culture clash experience after leaving their rough Black neighborhood in the South Side of Chicago to live with their grandfather Robert in a safer and affluent but white-dominated neighborhood in suburban Woodcrest, aka The Boondocks.

Besides clashing lifestyles and culture with the rest of the people in their new town, the series also brings clashing personalities from its main characters.

Huey is a 10-year-old leftist revolutionary, while Riley is an eight-year-old misfit and a product of the contemporary rap culture. Adding to the brothers, who seem to terrorize each other whenever they are not terrorizing the neighborhood, is their granddad, who appears cantankerous and focused only on enjoying his golden years in peace.

As the brothers terrorize each other and provoke the neighborhood, they soon realize that they are no match for their eccentric granddad.
