The production for Wednesday season 2 was green-lit by Netflix in January 2023, after the record-setting run of the first season which thrilled the audience and impressed the critics. Premiering on Netflix on November 23, 2022, Wednesday became a smash hit for the platform.

While the first season was filmed in Romania, Wednesday season 2 began filming in Ireland. Screen Ireland and Netflix have both confirmed that the upcoming season of the series will be a massive project in terms of production.

No official date for the release of the second season is available yet. However, given that the filming has already begun, mid-2025 seems to be a plausible time for its release. Most actors from season 1 will reprise their roles in the upcoming season, with some new additions to the cast. Read on to find out about these and more.

Largest production being filmed in Ireland: Wednesday season 2 moves to County Wicklow, Ireland

The picturesque county of Ireland, County Wicklow, has been chosen as the filming location for Wednesday season 2. Also called the "Garden of Ireland", County Wicklow is famous for its beautiful scenery that includes beaches, woodlands, ancient ruins, and architecture, among others.

The natural features of County Wicklow will potentially complement the Gothic feel of the series. Wednesday season 2 follows the trend of Netflix teaming up with Screen Ireland to bring more productions to the country in recent years.

Anna Mallett, Netflix’s BP Production EMEA, said:

“In recent years we have invested substantially in productions made in Ireland, such as The Siege of Jadotville, The Wonder, Bodkin and Vikings: Valhalla.”

As filming began, Ireland's Prime Minister, Taoiseach Simon Harris, visited the set of Wednesday and expressed his delight at Ireland's being the location for the second season. He said:

“I’m delighted to see Ireland continues to be chosen as a location to film series and movies which supports our economy, creates jobs, showcases our creative talents and promotes our country on a global stage."

Wednesday season 2: Cast and crew

Tim Burton will return as director of some episodes of the second season. Most of the cast members from the previous season are set to reprise their roles. Fans of the series will see Jenna Ortega return as the mysterious, psychic introvert and detective Wednesday Addams. She will also be an executive producer.

Other cast members for season 2 include Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene), and Georgie Farmer (Ajax), among others. Also, expected is Victor Dorobantu's hand as the 'Thing' in the second season.

Some exciting names have been added to the cast for the second season. Hollywood legend Steve Buscemi (famous for The Big Lebowski and Boardwalk Empire, among others) will play Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore Academy.

Other new cast members include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor. The co-showrunners of the show, Miles Millar and Al Gough, told Tudum in an article published on May 8, 2024:

“Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore,”

Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega) is expelled from a 'normal' school after she almost fatally injured the water polo team of the school by releasing live piranhas in the school's pool, because the team had bullied her brother. She is admitted to Nevermore Academy, an institution for the 'freaks' and outcasts of Jericho, Vermont.

It is difficult for Wednesday to make friends due to her reserved and brooding nature, and she ends up making enemies instead. However, it is discovered that she has inherited her mother's psychic abilities, which enable her to see glimpses of the past and the future simply by touching an object.

Wednesday uses her mysterious powers to solve a crime in the town. Season 1 is about the various adventures of Wednesday as she dons the hat of a detective. Wednesday season 2 will return with more adventures of the titular character.

Wednesday is based on the character Wednesday Addams, created by the American cartoonist Charles Addams. Season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix. However, the studio has not officially announced any release date yet. We will bring you the updates once they are available from official sources.
