The upcoming episode of Dateline: Secrets Uncovered is set to cover the assault and murder of Gloria Pointer and her mother, Yvonne Pointer's attempts at getting justice. Though the case dates back to 1984, it wasn't until 2013 that the perpetrator was identified and punished for the crime.

The upcoming episode of Dateline: Secrets Uncovered, titled A Promise to Gloria, will air at 8 pm EST on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, on Oxygen. The synopsis for the episode reads:

"A mother searches for answers in the unsolved murder of her 14-year-old daughter until new DNA technology changes everything."

Since the immense loss, Yvonne Pointer turned her attention to honoring her daughter's legacy and in the process became an anti-violence advocate. Still residing in Cleveland, Yvonne has dedicated her life to various organizations and turned into a motivational speaker who tries her best to help out all those in need.

She also found love at a much later age and now relishes the memory of her late daughter while helping out anyone who had to go through similar circumstances.

Who is Yvonne Pointer and what happened to her?

Yvonne Pointer was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. A mother of three children, Gloria, Raymon, and Denyelle, Yvonne was a dedicated family woman and was especially close to her eldest child, 14-year-old Gloria.

However, on the morning of December 6, 1984, the world came crashing around her when Yvonne heard that her daughter failed to reach school. Within hours, Gloria Pointer's body was found by the police. Soon, it was also revealed that she had been assaulted before being beaten to death.

Yvonne took it upon herself to bring justice to her daughter, whose case did not see any resolution. She reportedly went from prison to prison in search of her daughter’s assailant. Meeting inmates who required help and justice, Yvonne Pointer's direction in life changed.

Soon, she evolved into an anti-violence activist and motivational speaker, often aiding those who had suffered a similar fate as hers. She found Positive Plus, an organization dedicated to helping individuals impacted by violence.

She also established College Connection, a program aimed at high school students in their final year. She also collaborated with local authorities to bring The Midnight Basketball Program to Cleveland, earning herself the nickname of Mother of Midnight Basketball.

She also inspired a young man named Anthony Tay in West Africa, who went on to establish the Gloria Pointer Teen Movement Initiative, an initiative aimed at helping neglected and abused children in West Africa.

Where is Yvonne Pointer now?

Since her daughter's death, Yvonne Pointer led an incredible life and achieved a lot, helping many in the process. She continues to reside in Cleveland as of today and still continues giving back to society in various forms like the Gloria Pointer Annual Scholarship and Hope Haven.

She even appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame. She also received the 908th Point of Light national tribute from the President. She also co-founded P.A.C.K (Parents Against Child Killing) and is a part of P.O.M.C. (Parents of Murdered Children).

In 2021, Yvonne unexpectedly found love in Jerry McCreary after her sister introduced him to her. She married Jerry and currently remains with him.
