Veteran actor Ed Wheeler (1936-2024), best known for his work in series like Law & Order and Blue Bloods, has passed away at the age of 88.

As reported by Deadline, Ed Wheeler passed away on August 21, 2024, at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. His death was due to respiratory failure caused by pneumonia complications. His wife, Messeret Stroman Wheeler, confirmed the sad news.

In Law & Order, Wheeler portrayed detective Carl Dunston and also played various recurring characters like David, Duane Johnson, John Cromwell, Matt Sturges, and Reverend Jared Young, bringing depth to his roles with his extensive acting experience.

Aside from Law & Order, he was also known for notable performances in other shows such as Head of State and Mickey Blue Eyes.

Ed Wheeler, born on February 18, 1936, was a passionate individual who began his career in showbiz with TV commercials. He appeared in national ads for brands like Luvs diapers, Reynolds Wrap, Sudafed, and Pepcid AC. After navigating various struggles, he made his way to the Law & Order series.

Ed Wheeler also appeared in various films and television shows throughout his career. He starred in notable movies like Presumed Innocent, Thinner, and the 1998 version of Godzilla. His work on television included guest roles in popular series such as Law & Order, New York Undercover, and One Life to Live.

Over the course of his career, he participated in six episodes of the landmark series Law & Order, which aired from 1992 to 2004, showcasing his versatility.

Wheeler was also an accomplished stage performer. As a member of the Negro Ensemble Company, he featured in plays like The Dance on Widow’s Row and Zooman and the Sign.

His contributions to theater were recognized in 2017 when he received the Living Legend Award from the National Black Theatre Festival.

Alongside his wife, Wheeler established a production company and supported various artistic initiatives. They debuted as co-executive producers with the short film Keepers of the Flame in 2023.

Her statement further read:

"To all who knew Ed, thank you for your love and support during this time. Let’s remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on the world.
Rest in peace, My Honey. You will always be in my heart."
