The very gripping true crime show, People Magazine Presents: Crimes Of The 2010s, is all set to dive into the mysterious murder of Adea Shabani, a 25-year-old aspiring actress who seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth on February 23, 2018. The strikingly beautiful woman was later found in a shallow grave on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

This will be the subject of People Magazine Presents: Crimes Of The 2010s episode 9, titled To Live and Die in L.A. It airs at 8.00 PM EST on Investigation Discovery on August 29, 2024. The synopsis for the episode reads:

"A 25-year-old Macedonian woman with aspirations of stardom moves to Hollywood to pursue her dreams of becoming famous; on February 23, 2018, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed bombshell leaves her apartment and vanishes, never to be seen again."

Ahead of the episode, let us dive into who the victim was and what happened to her.

Who was Adea Shabani?

Like many others, Adea Shabani was one of the aspiring artists in Los Angeles, looking to make her dreams come true. A native of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, Adea Shabani boasted striking looks, which was enough to turn heads. This also meant that Hollywood could have been a destination for her if her life was not cut short prematurely.

In her younger years, Shabani studied at QSI International School of Skopje and then moved to France to study International Business Administration at the American University of Paris. She graduated in 2014 and proceeded to work in a Dubai jewelry store. Then, in 2014, she finally moved to LA to pursue her dream.

As her friends recalled after her death, she was extremely serious about her career and put in every effort to achieve her dreams. She enrolled in the renowned Stella Adler Studio of Acting in February 2018. At this time, she was also dating Chris Spotz, which may have been the reason for her murder, after all. Spotz was also an aspiring actor who was enrolled at the same academy as her.

What happened to Adea Shabani?

Shabani was last seen leaving on a trip with her boyfriend Chris Spotz on February 23, 2018. No one was initially concerned about her, but alarm bells started ringing when she did not turn up for an important class on February 26. Moreover, her relationship with Chris Spotz was also quite twisted as the man was already engaged to another woman when they started this relationship.

On February 26, Shabani's friend reported her missing, kickstarting the investigation. The police deciphered that Shabani did not text or call anyone after leaving with Spotz, indicating something happened to her on February 23 itself.

As per Chris' version of the events, Adea Shabani and he got into a bitter argument and she asked to be let off at Santa Clarita, about 25 miles from her home. They were bound for Northern California. He claimed that he never saw her after this.

The murder of Adea Shabani was unfortunately never solved because all the hints pointed to Chris Spotz, who killed himself after the police chased him. We can assume he was guilty of murdering Adea Shabani, but there is no way of knowing if that was indeed the case.

The upcoming episode of People Magazine Presents: Crimes Of The 2010s will cover this case in more detail.
