The Night Agent season 2: Role of Amanda Warren's character explained

Amanda Warren plays Catherine Weaver, a Night Action agent tasked with training and managing agents like Peter Sutherland. In the beginning, both Peter and Catherine are wary of each other due to their past experiences with betrayal.

In episode 8 of The Night Agent season 2, Catherine tells Peter that her reason for mistrusting him has to do with his father, the FBI agent Peter Sutherland Sr. She investigated him years ago and found him to be a mole in the Pentagon leak.

While speaking to Tudum by Netflix on January 24, 2025, Warren described her character's dynamic with Peter as follows:

"If you mess around, you will find out with a woman like Catherine Weaver. Peter is a man who colors very much outside the lines. She doesn’t like that. So we see that conflict kind of brew, ensue and evolve into something."

At the end of The Night Agent season 2, Catherine assigns Peter his next mission, which sets the stage for season 3. She instructs him to get close to the wealthy intelligence broker Jacob Monroe, who was a key player in the events of the season 2.

She suspects Monroe will have a greater influence on the American government due to his close connection to the Republican presidential candidate Richard Hagan, who is poised to win the presidency. In The Night Agent season 2, his Democratic opponent, Patrick Knox, is forced to withdraw from the race two weeks before the election.

Catherine suspects Hagan will be doing Monroe's bidding from the White House as a puppet president, and hence, asks Peter to keep a close eye on him.
