The first two episode of Creature Commandos premiered on Max on December 5, 2024. With it, the new DC Universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran officially began and established a brand-new canon under which movies, shows, and video games will be developed. However, it also gave fans its first big bad from the DC universe and it just happens to be a classic Wonder Woman villain.
Circe made her debut in the first two episodes of Creature Commandos. In the show it is revealed that she wants to use the Sons of Themyscira to invade Pokolistan so that she can later help them invade her homeland Themyscira as well. She is voiced by Anya Chalotra, famous for playing Yennefer in The Witcher, in Creature Commandos.
In the comic books, Circe is a classic Wonder Woman villain and an immortal sorceress as well.

Circe's origins in the comics explored
Prior to appearing in Creature Commandos, Circe was best known for being a Wonder Woman villain. She was created by writer and artist George Perez and first appeared in Wonder Woman Vol 2 #17 in June 1988. She used to be the princess of Colchis but was driven out of the kingdom after she killed her husband and found refuge on a small island where she started practicing sorcery.
Circe then lured seafarers onto the island to feed her powers, but that wouldn't be enough for her. The goddess Hectate then made her offer that she would receive immortality and more power if she helped her in her revenge against the Greek Gods. Circe agreed and helped Hectate and the exchange was made. However, Hectate's body was destroyed, but before that, she uttered the phrase:
"Upon the death of witch an the birth of witch, Hectate, by name and choice shall repossess her soul."
Following the exchange, Circe removed her anger on Colchis. She was then feared among many as well. She developed a rivalry with the Amozanians as well, however, in modern times she became a recluse as she chose to reside on her island. When Wonder Woman arrives on the scene, Circe is shocked that many Amazons are still alive.
This then started the rivalry between the DC superhero and Circe as both went on to clash against each other on various occasions over the years.
What is Creature Commandos about?
Creature Commandos is a DC animated series, created by James Gunn, follows a group of monsters who are assembled to travel to Pokolistan on a dangerous mission. Termed as the Task Force M, the team consists of characters such as Rick Flag Sr., Dr. Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky, The Bride, G.I. Robot, and Weasel.
The DC animated show launches a brand new DC Universe that will be spread across films, shows, and video games. The official logline of the show reads as:
"CREATURE COMMANDOS tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option."
