Veteran actor Dabney Coleman passed away on May 16, 2024, aged 92. He was best known for his performance as John Dutton Jr. in American neo-Western drama Yellowstone, marking his last credit as an actor. He even gained recognition for his appearances in TV shows such as Jumanji and The Zeta Project.
While the cause of his death is not disclosed, Coleman's daughter Quincy Coleman revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he was at his Santa Monica-based residence when he took his last breath. Quincy even expressed her grief in a statement, saying that her father was "a teacher, a hero and a king" and his work would continue to exist forever. She added:
"My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity. As he lived, he moved through his final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery."
Writer and producer Alison Martino also shared a Facebook post, where she recalled the time when she met Dabney Coleman in 1987. She even addressed the moment she spent with Coleman and continued:
"I would join him at Dan Tana's, more than occasionally. His table at DT's was legendary. We called it Dabney's round table. A time that could never be reproduced. So many wonderful and eccentric people would congregate at table 1 and have the most amazing discussions & debates."
Dabney Coleman was praised for his brief appearance in Yellowstone: Character and other details explored
Dabney Coleman managed to win hearts of the audience over the years with his performances on screen. While he portrayed lead roles in many projects, he even became popular for being featured in an episode of Yellowstone as John Dutton Jr.
John Dutton Jr. was from Montana and owned the biggest cattle ranch in the US. The rest of his family members were also ranchers and he later tied the knot, becoming a father of two sons named John and Peter.
Dutton Jr.'s children also decided to settle down at one point when John married Evelyn and they had four children, namely Lee, Jamie, Beth, and Kayce. They were raised in the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and Kayce had a son named Tate from his marriage to Monica Long.
Meanwhile, Kayce also welcomed another son named John, but he passed away shortly after he was born. John Dutton Jr. lost his daughter-in-law Evelyn in 1997 when the latter was riding a horse and fell. One of John's grandsons, Lee, passed away sometime later during a dispute with the Broken Rock Indian Reservation.
Yellowstone aired on Paramount Network in 2018 and continued for five seasons until this year. The Western drama won't return for a sixth season.
