Superman & Lois season 4 premiered on The CW Network on Monday, October 7, 2024. Being the final season of the show, the outing picks up from the huge cliffhanger that season 3 left fans on where Superman is just about to fight Doomsday on the moon.
The premiere sees the two eventually make their way onto Mars while Lois and the children deal with Lex Luthor on Earth.

In the premiere of Superman & Lois season 4, which loosely adapts the Death of Superman storyline, Superman is killed by Doomsday during their fight. His death raises questions about the show's direction. Although Tyler Hoechlin returns as Superman at the end of episode 2, he appears only as a hologram in the Fortress of Solitude. The Kent family will now face challenges dealing with Lex Luthor in Smallville.

Is Superman dead in Superman & Lois season 4?
For now, Superman is confirmed to be dead in Superman & Lois season 4. At the end of season 3, Lex Luthor turns Bizarro into Doomsday and then lures him to Superman where the Man of Steel and the beast engage in a fight. However, Doomsday proves to be too much for Superman as he proves his superior strength over him quite easily.
Doomsday then takes Superman into space where the two eventually end up on the Moon and continue their fight. Their fight then leads them to Mars where Superman can be seen struggling to battle the beast. While Superman makes a final stand against him, Doomsday ends up getting the better of him and rips his heart out.
Doomsday comes back to Earth with Superman's body and throws it in front of the Kents while he delivers his heart to Lex Luthor. To save his father, Jordan takes Superman's body to the Fortress of Solitude, but Lara reveals that nothing can be done to save him since he doesn't have a heart. Jordan then begins searching for Clark's heart.
While he thinks he has found Clark's heart, it just turns out to be a trap set up by Lex Luthor. He uses Kryptonite beams to weaken Jordan and then destroys his father's heart in front of him. So, for now, Superman is really dead in Superman & Lois season 4.
Will Superman come back in Superman & Lois season 4?
Following the Death of Superman storyline in the comics, Superman then returns in the Reign of Supermen story arc. In the book, four Superman pretenders show up. One of the pretenders, who is called the Eradicator, steals Superman's dead body and puts him in the Regenerator Matrix in the Fortress of Solitude. While feeding off his energy, Superman is revived as well.
However, given that Clark's heart has been destroyed now and he only exists as a hologram within the Fortress of Solitude, it does make matters more complicated. Perhaps Superman may return, or he may not, but for now that answer remains a mystery.
