The first teaser for The Last of Us season 2 premiered online yesterday as a part of The Last of Us Day celebration. The teaser opened with footage of Joel in therapy, talking about Ellie and then fans got to see footage from the new season that will be adapting The Last of Us: Part II and introducing new characters like Dina, Jesse, Isaac, and more.

However, one of the biggest characters that will be introduced in The Last of Us season 2 is Abby, who is set to be played by Kaitlyn Dever. In The Last of Us: Part II, Abby is a major character, whose presence will have huge implications on how the story plays out. She also has an extremely important connection to one of the major events from the first season as well.

Her character is driven by revenge too and you could even say that she is almost as important as Ellie in the story.

Warning: Spoilers for The Last of Us season 2 and The Last of Us: Part II will follow. So, if you don't want to know more, now might be a good time to turn away.

The Last of Us season 2 introduces Kaitlyn Dever's Abby

In The Last of Us season 2, Kaitlyn Dever will be stepping into the shoes of Abby. For those who have played the games, they know that Abby is the primary antagonist of The Last of Us: Part II, and in some ways, a protagonist as well. In the game, she is responsible for murdering Joel, which kicks off Ellie's journey to Seattle so that she can exact revenge on her.

The reason Abby kills Joel in the game is because Joel murdered her father Jerry. For those who don't know, Jerry was the Firefly doctor who was set to operate on Ellie, but before he could do so, Joel murdered him. Just at that point, Abby happens to be in the hospital as well and learns that her father was murdered by Joel, which fills her heart with rage.

Joining the WLF army (The Washington Liberation Front), Abby trains with them for five years before assembling her friends and traveling to Jackson to kill Joel.

She is successful in doing so, and kills him right in front of Ellie. However, while many might think she is the villain of the story, the game actually pulls off a surprise that makes her one of the protagonists too.

Midway through The Last of Us: Part II, players begin playing as Abby for the second half of the game, which tells her part of the story. Here, players get to learn of her motivations and her time in the WLF as well - while interacting with her friends Owen, Manny, Mel, and more.

Abby's narrative sees her bond with two Seraphite kids Yara and Lev, who are part of a religious extremist group and are trying to escape their clan. However, her story soon catches up with Ellie's.
