Matthew Perry's death has once again started garnering a lot of attention over the past 24 hours after five people, including Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry's assistant, were arrested in connection to the actor's death. As per reports, Perry's cause of death was revealed to be the effects of acute ketamine overdose, which has led to the charge against the five individuals.
While Perry's death was initially deemed to be accidental, Kenneth Iwamasa, Jasveen Sangha, and three others, which include two doctors, have been arrested for the actor's death. They are accused of encouraging and supplying the actor with the drug that ultimately killed him. The investigation has also allegedly opened up a portal into the secret world of drug peddling in Hollywood.
Iwamasa is a veteran talent manager who also worked with big names like Angela Bassett. He reportedly got the ketamine for Perry, who had switched to cheaper sources after procuring the drug from doctors turned expensive. Iwasama has reportedly pleaded guilty to the charges, as per latest reports.
Everything you need to know about Matthew Perry's assistant Kenneth Iwasama
Initially, there was hardly any information available about the veteran talent manager, but a probe into his LinkedIn profile has revealed a lot of details.
Kenneth Iwasama studied photography and environmental design before pursuing cinematography and film production at Columbia College Hollywood. After this, he pursued a different line of work in Hollywood.
For over three decades, Iwasama reportedly represented and managed various Hollywood personalities while representing Doug Chapin Management. In fact, he has been managing Matthew Perry for over 25 years. In the months that preceded his death, Iwasama also started living with Matthew Perry.
As per the allegations against them, Iwasama and the others manipulated Perry's long-drawn substance abuse issues to get rich quickly. As per the latest reports, he also administered several ketamine injections to Matthew Perry, including on the day he died. He had no medical training or degree for doing this.
According to court papers, Iwasama administered a dose of ketamine to Matthew Perry at 8.30 am. He gave another dose four hours later, and another within 40 minutes of that. After giving Perry the third dose, he allegedly went out to run some errands. He prepared the hot tub before leaving and returned to find Matthew Perry unresponsive.
Attorney Martin Estrada addressed the involvement of Iwasama and the others in a press conference, where he said:
"They knew what they were doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr Perry, but they did it anyways. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr Perry than caring for his wellbeing."
There will be more updates in this case in the coming days.
