What is the story of Emily in Paris?
Emily Cooper is a marketing executive in Chicago who has to shift to the city of Paris, a fashion hub, to work for Savoir, a French marketing firm. Her boss, Madeline, finding out that she is pregnant, sends Emily to bring an American perspective to the French fashion firm that their company has recently acquired. Emily is more than excited about this new job prospect and starts posting her journey on social media.
But as time passes, she starts to face all the difficulties that come with not knowing the native language and culture of France. There is a socio-cultural barrier that makes it difficult for Emily to make deeper connections with her colleagues. Soon her boyfriend in Chicago, Doug, breaks up with her, saying he won't get along in a long-distance relationship. She tries to mend her broken heart by befriending Mindy, an aspiring singer, and her neighbor and a skilled French chef named Gabriel.
Emily soon begins to develop feelings for Gabriel, but things take a troubling turn when Emily discovers that he already has a girlfriend named Camille. Soon Camille becomes a good friend of Emily, and she finds herself stuck between following her heart or keeping the friendship. Meanwhile, Gabriel makes plans to leave Paris and buy a cheap restaurant in Normandy.
She thought this would be the last time she would see Gabriel, but on the day of his departure, he cancels the plan after getting an offer from Antoine Lambert, a French businessman, to invest in his Paris restaurant. Season one ends with an open note where Emmy is left to wonder, as she is developing a flirtatious working relationship with Mathieu Cadeau, the nephew of the fashion icon Pierre Cadault.
The second season of Emily in Paris begins, and we learn that Gabriel and Camille have broken their relationship. Mathieu breaks up with Emily when he discovers that Emily has feelings for Gabriel. He gives her their vacation tickets to Saint Tropez to spend it with Gabriel. Instead, Emily invites her friends Mindy and Camille for the vacation.
She faces difficulties working with her current boss, Sylvie, being skeptical about her plans, but her growing social media following gave her a sense of autonomy. In Saint Tropez, Emily meets the famous designer Gregory Dupree, who falsely claims to be a friend of Cadault, and offers to promote Cadault's luggage series by sitting over it and taking pictures. This soon spreads on social media as Gregory is a rival who successfully defamed their brand. In response, Emily is removed from the Cadault account.
Emily tries to reconcile the relationship between Camille and Gabriel, but Camille finds out that Emily is having an affair with her boyfriend. Camille exposes Emily, which affects Savior's business as Camille's champagne is one of their clients. Meanwhile, Mindy is following her dreams, singing for clubs, joining a band, and dating its guitarist.
Madeline comes from America, now the boss of Sylvie, and the two don't get along well. Sylvie ends up resigning from the company to start her PR firm. The second season ends with Emily making the major decision if she wants to stay loyal to Madeline or join Sylvie in her new firm. In the very end, Emily finds out that Gabrielle and Camille have gotten back together.
In the third season of Emily in Paris, we see Emily in a major dilemma about where she wants to continue her professional life. Though she makes plans with Sylvie, she keeps on working for Madeline. When Sylvie comes to know about it, she fires her. Madeline gives birth and announces her plan to return to America, while Emily makes the major decision to resign and stay in Paris permanently.
Sylvie's company finds financial constraints with no new clients and decides to hire back Emily. She discovers that Alfie, the English banker, has returned from London, and their relationship begins to reconcile. Meanwhile, Gabriel's relationship is on the verge of ending as Camille has indulged herself in a new relationship with another girl named Sofia.
Mindy's guitarist boyfriend Benoît breaks up with her after noticing she has formed an affair with Nicholas de Léon, the son of Louis de Léon, the head of the luxury company JVMA. The third season comes to an end with Gabriel and Camille's engagement party, despite all their odds. But right at the moment when the couple is about to say their vows, Camille calls the wedding off, saying Gabriel is still in love with Emily. This shocks Alfie, who breaks up with her, realizing he has always been her second choice.
The viewers finally start to believe that Emily and Gabriel are finally getting along, but that hope is completely shattered when Camille reveals that she is pregnant with Gabriel's child. The third season leaves a lot of unanswered questions, which will be answered in the fourth season of Emily in Paris.
