Episode 4 of The Penguin, released on October 13, 2024, on HBO, introduced audiences to one of the least explored characters in the DC universe. This character is none other than Magpie, aka Margaret Pye or Mag, a supervillain who appears in the American leg of the comic books published by DC Comics.
In the fourth episode of the show's first season, Magpie's character was introduced in relation to Sofia, who got sent to Arkham Asylum after being framed by Carmine. Following her confinement, which was prolonged due to Carmine's conspiracies, Sofia was subjected to severe forms of torture, including electroshock therapy, which considerably altered her brain chemistry.
This in turn led her to commit unruly acts, one of which included killing her fellow prisoner, Magpie.

About Magpie in the HBO series and her association with the DC Comics
As previously mentioned, Magpie's character was first introduced in The Penguin series in the fourth episode of the show in relation to Sofia's character, who was held back at the infamous Arkham Asylum. The asylum was also the place where Sofia killed Magpie.
If Magpie's character were to be traced in the DC comics universe, then her first appearance was in The Man of Steel #3, which came out in November 1986. Her character was created by John Byrne.
Magpie re-emerged in 2011 in The New 52, a revamped format of the DC comics. She appeared in the comics as a part of a Secret Society of Supervillains put together by Outsider on behalf of the Crime Syndicate of America.
She appeared again in 2016 in DC Rebirth, where she was one of the few antagonists Batman and Catwoman had to deal with. At a later point in the DC Comics universe, Magpie also became a member of the Suicide Squad.
