Who is Morgan Metzer and what happened to her?

Morgan Metzer hails from Georgia and she had to go through a traumatic incident when a masked intruder invaded her house and assaulted her. Little did she know at the time that her assaulter was her ex-husband who had just come in to "rescue" her after the incident.

Rodney Metzer had called up the Cherokee Sheriff's Office in the early hours of January 1, 2021, to report assault on his ex-wife. According to him, he had found his ex-wife tied up on her deck when he came to visit her that morning.

Investigation into the incident brought to light substantial evidence that ascertained that it was Rodney Metzer himself who was the intruder who attacked Morgan Metzer. He had staged the whole incident only to come in sometime later to play the hero and rescue her.

According to the district attorney’s office, Morgan was strangled and hit with a blunt object, likely the butt of a gun. She was then zip-tied and further assaulted. Metzer recalls those horrifying moments in the CBS docuseries saying,

“I saw the shadow of a man’s body standing there, you know, all in black and just lit up by the light in the background. He had a mask on."

Metzer also stated that the intruder was modulating his voice. He was trying to talk in a low volume and in a grave tone, almost sounding like Batman. Morgan was left on her deck with a pillowcase over her head.

How was Morgan Metzer's ex-husband implicated?

According to the district attorney’s office, there was enough evidence to book Rodney Metzer in this case. Investigations revealed a handgun in his vehicle and zip ties in his home which matched the ones the intruder had used to tie up Morgan. Surveillance footage also showed him purchasing those zip ties from Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Moreover, authorities found some disturbing search history on Rodney Metzer’s internet browser. He had searched “How long before you starve to death," "how to change the sound of your voice" and "how long it takes to choke someone unconscious.”

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Morgan Metzer and Rodney Metzer had known each other since they were teenagers and were recently divorced at the time of the attack. The duo were previously married for a decade and were parents to a set of twins.

Where is Rodney Metzer now?

Rodney Metzer pled guilty in August 2021, to 14 charges in relation to the assault on his ex-wife. These include kidnapping, sexual battery, and aggravated assault. He received a sentence of 70 years in prison and is required to serve the first 25 years in confinement and the remaining 45 years on probation. At the time of his sentencing, Rod Metzer was 36 years old. At the moment he is incarcerated in the Augusta State Medical Prison in Grovetown, Georgia.
