Virgin River is based on the popular book series of the same name by Robyn Carr, published between 2007 and 2020. Developed by Sue Tenney, the series debuted its first season on December 6, 2019, on Netflix. It is produced by Ian Hay, Sally Dixon, Jackson Snider, and its lead stars are Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson.
The show's official logline, as per Netflix, reads:
"Searching for a fresh start, a nurse practitioner moves from LA to a remote northern California town and is surprised by what — and who — she finds."
Virgin River Season 6 explores the romance between Sarah and Everett
Virgin River Season 6 primarily focuses on the upcoming nuptials between Mel and Jack. However, one of the season's sub-plots involves Mel reconnecting with her biological father, Everett Reid. Played by John Allen Nelson, Reid showed up on Mel’s doorstep during Season 5's Christmas-themed episodes, which aired on November 30, 2023.
Virgin River Season 6's second episode features a flashback sequence showcasing the first meeting between Everett and Mel's mother, Sarah. Set in 1972, Everett and Sarah crossed paths after the latter tried to hitchhike a ride on the side of the road. After offering her a ride, Everett's car broke down in Virgin River. The two quickly fell for each other and shared their first kiss while camping overnight in the Northern Californian town.
Callum Kerr's casting as the young Everett was announced by Deadline in September 2024. The article stated the character's official description as follows:
"Everett is a singer-songwriter with a poet’s soul. One day he’ll pursue his dreams of the stage, but for now, he’s skimming through life in a VW Van, until a chance meeting with a beautiful hitchhiker, Sarah, may just show him there’s more to life than he ever thought possible."
Moreover, Kerr shared the exciting news on Instagram with his half-a-million followers, revealing that he felt "over the moon" joining the Virgin River universe. Ahead of the show's premiere, the Scottish actor said that his character was "full of excitement and wonder" during an interview with TV Insider on December 10, 2024.
