Maura Therese Tierney was born on February 3, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood, where she was the eldest daughter of three children born into an Irish-American Catholic family. Her mother, Pat, is a real estate agent, while Joseph M., her late father, was a renowned politician who served on the Boston City Council for 15 years.
