Monsters: the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is the second season of the popular Netflix crime anthology series Monster. Created by Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy, the series centers around the gruesome murders of José and Kitty Menéndez by their two sons.

The second season premiered on the platform on September 19, 2023.

On the evening of August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menéndez shot their parents to death in their house in Beverly Hills, California. After rigorous investigation and putting on trial, in 1996 the brothers pleaded guilty to having killed their parents.

Both of the brothers were sent to lifetime imprisonment, without any possibility of parole. Their attorneys defended by revealing that Lyle and Erik had suffered a lifetime of sexual and emotional abuse that led to their crimes.

Jerome Oziel, the former therapist of the brothers served a key role in proving them guilty. The role of Oziel is played by the American actor Dallas Roberts in Monsters: the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Oziel was a key witness during the trial who said that during their sessions, the brothers confessed to having killed their parents.

Dallas Roberts plays the role of Jerome Oziel, the therapist of Lyle and Rik Menendez. Roberts is most popularly known for his role-playing the scientist Milton Mamet in the dystopian horror drama series The Walking Dead.

Born in Houston, Texas, the actor went on to graduate as a member of the Drama Division's Group 23 from the Juilliard School in New York City.

Some of Roberts' major works include Dallas Buyers Club (2013), 3:10 to Yuma (2007), My Friend Dahmer (2017), Mayhem, Walk the Line (2005), The Grey (2011), Motherless Brooklyn (2019) and Insatiable (2018).

Dallas Dallas has some other highly admired roles including Owen Cavanaugh in The Good Wife (2009) and Eliot Delson in Unforgettable (2011).


Who is Jerome Oziel in Monsters: the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

Jerome Oziel was the therapist of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who played a crucial role in proving the brothers guilty. Oziel testified that two months after the murder, during one of their sessions, he took Erik on a walk where he confessed that they committed the murder.

Oziel had recorded most of his conversations with the brothers on tape, which went on to share with his mistress Judalon Smyth.

In Monsters: the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, episode 3 titled, Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? Judalon goes to the police and discloses everything. This happens after Oziel and Judalon have ended their relationship.

The conversation tapes were not easy to retrieve considering the patient's confidentiality. But after Oziel came out to testify that the brothers were threatening to kill him too, the investigators could finally access the tapes.

As per a Times article, published on September 20, 2024, Jerome Oziel's therapist license was cancelled by the California Board of Psychology on January 3, 1997. He was charged with having committed sexual misconduct and tampering with confidentiality rules.

Jerome Oziel does not practice as a therapist and is not a resident of California anymore.
