Netflix's new mystery-thriller, Missing You, premiered on the streaming platform on January 1, 2025. Based on Harlan Coben's 2014 novel of the same name, the five-episode series features English actress Rosalind Eleazar in the lead role of Kat Donovan.
Kat Donovan plays a complex character in the series, a detective who finds her missing finance on a dating app around 10 years after his disappearance. As she dives deep into the mystery, she discovers buried secrets, linking the incident to her father’s unsolved murder.
Eleazar is an acclaimed stage and screen actress best known for her role in Slow Horses and Howards End. She talked about her latest project, Missing You, in an interview with Tudum by Netflix dated January 1, 2025, saying,
“I found the way that Kat dealt with her fiancé’s disappearance and her father’s murder really interesting, she sort of buries it, and she doesn’t really want to touch it, and I thought that that was incredibly human, and it was challenging to hold that whilst all these events are taking place around her.”
Background of Missing You actress Rosalind Eleazar
Rosalind Eleazar was born in London on February 4, 1988, to a Ghanaian father and an English mother. After winning an academic scholarship, she went to Gordonstoun and Nottingham University. She even worked for a film and TV company before being trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). After graduating in 2015, she ventured into acting.
She had doubts in the initial stages of her career, believing she would not be cast in lead roles. In an interview with The Guardian dated March 17, 2021, she said,
“I thought that wouldn’t happen due to the colour of my skin, I am aware of colourism and of being mixed race. That’s maybe why I have had an easier ride and many varied roles.”
In Missing You, Rosalind stars as Detective Kat Donovan, who faces emotional turmoil after her long-missing fiancé's profile is discovered on a dating app. The Netflix series has garnered attention for its blend of suspense and emotional complexity.
Harlan Coben praised Rosalind's portrayal of Kat in an interview with Tudum by Netflix dated January 1, 2025, saying,
“I’m really happy with this cast, especially Rosalind Eleazar taking on this lead role, which is a really demanding one where she’s got to kind of go through a lot.”

Rosalind Eleazar’s acting journey: From Stage to screen
Rosalind Eleazar’s acting career began on the stage with various theatrical productions after graduating from LAMDA. After performing in the short film Lost Village, Rosalind made her on-screen debut with the 2016 series National Treasure. She gained prominence with her portrayal of Violet Cross in Harlots and Jacky Bast in the BBC adaptation of Howards End.
She started her film career with The Personal History of David Copperfield, where she worked alongside Dev Patel and Tilda Swinton. She talked about her experience in an interview with A Rabbit's Foot, dated March 29, 2023. She said,
"You know it was such a whirlwind. It was my very first feature film, and Armando was so welcoming, he really backed me in way that made it feel incredible to work under him. He brought so much joy and confidence on to the set."
Rosalind’s role as Louisa Guy in the acclaimed spy thriller Slow Horses brought her into the limelight, and her role in Netflix's Missing You solidifies her position as a versatile actress.
Rosalind Eleazar talked about the reason behind picking Missing You and other projects. She said,
"I suppose I’m more interested by the quality of the script and what’s in the work. Characters from novels—like Yelena from Uncle Vanya—can have so much depth to them. It excites you as an actor seeing the minds these amazing writers create, where there’s all this nuance and psychology, and in the end, when a script keeps that depth, I’m sucked in."
