Well-known television personality Sunny Hostin's husband, Emmanuel Hostin, has been accused of federal insurance fraud in a lawsuit filed by a company called American Transit. Apart from Sunny, several other names are mentioned in the legal documents, and similar charges have been imposed against them.
According to the media outlet Coming Soon, Emmanuel has been working as an orthopedic surgeon and sports doctor for a long time. He also co-owns the New York City-based Alvin & Friends restaurant alongside his wife. The duo are also the parents of two children, Gabe and Paloma.
A report by Daily Mail stated that the insurance fraud lawsuit was filed on December 17, 2024, and it alleged that the accused intentionally offered fraudulent medical and healthcare services.
Furthermore, the bills for the services were allegedly sent to American Transit, which offers insurance to other taxi companies in exchange for compensation in the form of dividends and cash distributions. As per PR Newswire, the case has been filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) Act.
The lawsuit claims that the accused tried to take advantage of the no-fault auto insurance laws in New York, which refers to a process by which insurance companies compensate their policyholders for the expenses of medical care for injuries resulting from an accident. PR Newswire reported that American Transit is now seeking compensatory and punitive damages of more than $150 million.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel's attorney, Daniel's Thwaites, responded to the lawsuit while speaking to the Daily Mail, saying that the allegations made against his client are not true, adding that it is a "blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit" filed by a company that is almost going bankrupt.
